Hello T Friends !

I have a 1920 Model T that I am converting to a World War 1 era flat bed truck. With wooden cab and flat bed etc. I have noticed on a lot of T Trucks that the running board is much smaller than the standard one on a car. Is this a special running board or is it a cut down one from a car? What about the mounting brackets? They appear to be not the same on a car. Lastly, does the short running board and front fender bolt together? Where can I get such a running board and mounts? Thanks !

A 1920 TT will have 15" lon running boards. Later models had longer ones, 18" I think. They were not just cut down car running boards, they were made for the TT's. The TT brackets were also unique to the TT's. Last, yes the front fender and the running board bolt together just like on a regular T.

I bet John D., who often posts on this forum, can help you find what you need.

Good Luck!!

Yes, it's a different running board just for the TT. And yes, the running board attaches. The two carriage bolts holding down the front of the running board also go through the two holes at the back end of the fender.

Shopping for them, start with these folks:

I think it is safe to say that all TT trucks had short running boards. Lots of owner of cars or car frames convert them into something they call a truck. A true TT truck from Ford had a heavy frame and a worm drive rear end. The holes in the frame for the running board supports would be spaced for that short running board.

Alexander,

I have just re-read your post. We have all responded with information relative to a TT (Ton Truck). However, you do not say you have a TT. You talk about a T Truck, which could be either a TT or a regular T.

So, let's determine what you actually have, then we will all be better able to steer you in the right direction. As Willie says above, TT's have a heavier frame than a T and a worm drive rear end. They're also 20" longer. If you don't know what a worm drive looks like, just measure the wheel base from front axle to rear axle. A regular T will be 100" and a TT will be 120". Post the results here and we'll give'r another go.

Cheers!!

Hi, The running boards on my TT have a curved lip on the back side. I was told it was to scrape the mud off your feet before getting in. Scott

I forgot about these pictures. They show a good view of the running board attached to the fender.
