I build a few coils for people and some to sell, but don't advertize and therefore don't do a large amount of business. So the other day, I ordered 8 sets of points from Lang's. I only received 7 sets. One set on back order. Three of the 7 I got were all in a plastic bag. The other 4 were in individual paper envelopes. Those are MUCH better quality than the the others. Ron Patterson said a while back that the manufacturer had finally gotten their stuff together and were turning out better points. Was I the guy who got the last of the old ones that Lang's had on their shelf? I'm curious why the mixed batch. Of course, SURELY, they got more than 4 sets of new ones at one time though, so I'm still not sure why the mixed batch.
I really wanted to try those new ones, but I only had three more coils to put points on, so I used the three of the infernal older style, hoping that's the last time I will have to deal with them. I put the four new style sets away for future builds. Hope that back ordered set will be the new style.
The new points have a thicker bridge metal, cushion spring made of phosphor bronze, and the limiting rivit is properly set.
Compare to the prior sets & you'll appreciate the difference.
I find the cushion spring tension needs a bit more adjusting pressure to set, but your setting will stay put electrically.
I get my point supply from Snyders. Satisfied customer.

The ones you got in the paper envelopes are the ones being made by Bob Branson of Branson Enterprises, Rockford, IL.
Bob sourced the proper half-hard bronze, spent a ton of money making new dies to set the cushion rivet properly among other things.
He also beds the coils differently so they don't come apart at the seams....the plastic ones anyway which I happen to love and will soon be ordering 4 more.......
