6v ones work fine, if you have heavy cables and clean connections. You can get those at any tractor supply store.

Oh boy, here we go again. I use a six volt Super Start from the local farm supply. Why eight? Why not just fix what's wrong?

If you insist on an 8 volt battery, just adjust the brushes on your generator to charge slightly higher. My Dad did this on our 27 coupe and it will spin the starter a little faster, but we still needed to jack up one rear wheel off the ground, often. We found that 8 volt batteries don't last any better than 6 volt batteries. Of course that was before the modern battery tenders became available. As long as you don't set the charging rate, too high, you can use 6 volt bulbs.

I doubt you will find an 8 volt battery that will be superior to a GOOD, 650 CCA, 6 volt battery.

I bought a store branded 6 volt, 650CCA last year and it has served me well so far. I did have to put the charger on it once over the winter because I failed to start it for awhile but other than that it's been just fine.

I don't think you'll find a battery tender for an 8V either

No stress, just my smartypants comment about this being a much-chewed-over subject, like water pumps and oil.

I have used 8 volt batteries in 2 of my cars and the others use 6. They cost exactly the same at my NAPA dealer and they stock 1 with each battery order they place. They can be charged (at albeit a slower rate) with a 6 volt charger just fine. Only 1 car has a generator and I have not adjusted the charging rate. The install date of one of my 8 volt batteries id 2008 and it is perfectly serviceable. Nothing is wrong with my electrical systems in any case but I like the idea of brighter lights, faster cranking speed, and the extra 2 volts for the same price.
