Today I met up with Dave Huson and 4 other T's and we drove to 12183 feet on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. My 14 Touring knew that we were that high above sea level! The day didn't look so good in the morning. Heavy fog to start the day.
I had polished the brass and waxed the car yesterday. Looks like I am going to have to do it again. The fog lifted before we got to the park. Every one had a good time and we all made it with the exception of one T running out of gas.
Here we are at the bottom of the road.
Here is my car near the top.
A dusting of snow already, and folks wearing coats. In a few weeks I'll be bringing in wood for the fireplace and the stove.
Here a some more pictures.
Thanks for the pics, Paul. The Ozarks are a beautiful place to drive Model T's, but the Rockies are on a whole 'nother scale. Awesome!
Mike,
It was an awesome drive. It seemed like there were more pictures of the T's taken than of the Rocky Mountains where ever we stopped. Lots of questions were asked. One wag asked me why we didn't drive old chevys and I told him that was because a T era chevy would not make it over the mountain when they were new, much less 98 years later. I will do the drive again next year.
Just food for thought, One of the T's that made the tour was just finished and put back on the road 2 weeks ago. It was a 27 Touring and he had 4 people in the car, it was stock, with no auxiliary transmission. He was in low pedal for long, long, long, long periods of time. When he got to the top he said "Thank God for needle bearing triple gears."
