Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: Is spindle arm the wrong shape?

I am still having problems with the spindle connecting rod resting on the wishbone. It was fine before I took the car apart last year.

The drivers side spindle arm bends up lifting the rod off the wishbone. The passenger side spindle arm does not bend up. Should the passenger side spindle arm bend up? Maybe I have the wrong year? Could this be the reason?

The passenger side arm has a hole for the speedometer, but at this point I do not care about the speedometer if changing the arm will help.

Thank you for your help again. Bob

If your T is newer than 19 it should have both curved spindle arms. Never on of each kind.

You need two of the same era spindle arms. Your 15 touring should have two of the straight type. Contact me off line if you need parts, I have some extras of either type.

The spindle arms you should have will depend on what wishbone is on your car. If your 1914 has the "correct" 1918 or earlier wishbone (above the axle), you want the straight arms so the tie rod will go under the wishbone. If your car has the 1919 or later wishbone, like my 1915 runabout, it needs the curved arms that put the tie rod above the wishbone.

Steve,

The early arms work fine with the low wishbone.

That's what I get for just going by the book and not having the stock early car to study.

Thanks for your help, I did not know which years the wishbone went over or under the axle. I have a 1914 on a later year frame.

Thanks for the offer Royce. I am going to contact Langes tomorrow since I get the part in two days.

I am putting the car back together trying to get it ready before Hershey so I can put it back up for sale.
