Here is a photo I found of my grandfathers 1913 Model T. The photo was taken around 1915. The handwriting is courtesy of my dad.
Very nice photo. Thank you for sharing.
Cuba? I keep discovering Kansas towns I've never heard of. Looking at it on the map, I see was was ten miles from there a couple of weeks ago. Not in a T, though.
Daryl,
Good pic of a 13. Great to have a photo of your grandfather with his car. He looks fairly young at the time. Do you know more about the trips he was making?
Thanks for sharing,
Rob
Great photo Daryl. One of the things I enjoy about some of the photos is the white tires on the cars. I was at a really great city festival at St Joseph MN today and Eric Hylen had his '14 there. The car just looks right with the white tires on it.
I want a set of gloves like those!
Steve, isn't Cuba in Missourah ?? Along with Versailles, Mexico, California, Moscow, Paris , Verdun and let's not forget Knob Noster.
I think you're right George, because I'm pretty sure Toad Lick and Bald Knob are in Arkansas.
There is a Cuba,KS, on modern roads, it's 144 miles to Topeka.
Rabbit Hatch is in Kentucky Wild names.
I know there's such a place as Iowa County Wisconsin. There's also Arkansaw, Wisconsin (No, actually I spelled Arkansaw correctly). And Russia is in Ohio.
I think his family lived in Cuba, KS at the time or shortly before. Eventually moving to the Topeka area.
He would have been around 25 years old at the time of the picture.
Those white tires do just look right on that car.
How about Young America, Indiana, where I was born.
Mike G. -- That's Toad Suck, AR, not Toad Lick. Bald Knob is correct. There's also Hogeye.
And on another note, if you compare the color of the tires with Grandpa's shirt, you'll see they're not white. Probably gray, tan, or red, but not white like the shirt.
I'm sorry Mike. I know I was really surprised when my friend told me the name of that town. And I laughed when they started talking about the Black Swamp. Now as far as the tires. The tires on Eric's car appear to be white to me. But please understand my eyes aren't what they were and I should be allowed to be a little bit off once in a while. But I do feel ashamed for getting the name of Toad Suck wrong. I always wondered how it happened that we have a town named Embarrass, Minnesota. It has the honor of holding the record for having reach the coldest temperature in Minnesota at -64 degrees fahrenheit. Which is 5 degrees warmer than the coldest place ever recorded in the lower 48 states. It was pretty cold that day. I noticed a lot of people wearing long sleeved shirts when they went out.
The tires could have been originally white but have been discolored from the gravel and dirt roads like white walls we are familiar with get over time.
Interesting. I spent four years in the Air Force not far from Toad Suck, but don't recall that I ever went there. I remember hearing the name, though.

I will be making a stop in Paris Missouri today. Not to far from Mexico Missouri.
I'm originally from Pennsylvania and they have towns named, Intercourse, Bird in Hand, Five Points, to name just a few.
Great photo and it's neat to have the family history.
When I was stationed in Brunswick, Maine in the early 80's my favorite place was Cow $hit Corner, ME.
David - "CSC" is still a popular drive for the Downeast Chapter tours...
I've been to Nevada, Missouri.
Nice little airport there.
I have driven my T through Pumpkin Center and Weedpatch California on my way to Oildale.
Cities/towns in Michigan: Paradise, Hell, Colon, Climax, Bliss, Witch lake, Rattle Run, Gay, Crump, Aloha, Stalwart, Christmas and Waterloo.
Dont forget French Lick in Indiana. Actually theres several... troop

And also blue Balls PA
Also Wedlock Texas with the maternity hospital located just outside of the City limits. A lot of people are born outa Wedlock.
Since this thread has morphed from the '13 T entirely to town names, I'll go ahead and mention that not far from Hogeye are Bugscuffle and Weedy Rough.
Don't forget ..... Dry Prong, Louisiana
I believe Richard Hatch is talking about Rabbit Hash, KY. Not far from where I used to live in Hebron, KY. It is the site of a ferry that once crossed the Ohio River to Indiana years ago. Supposedly Lorreta Lynn lived there for a while.
Also interesting is how the pronunciation of some names changes here. Nevada MO is pronounced Nev-AY-da, Cairo IL is CAY-ro, and there are others I can't think of right off the bat.
A couple of folks had moved from Langcaster Pennsylvania to Langcaster California. Folks in Pennsylvania pronounce it LANG kisster and folks in California call in LANG caster. The couple were in a restaurant in their new town and asked the waiter where they were so they could hear how to pronounce it. So they said, "Where are we" and he very carefully said
B u r g e r K i n g.
The same couple went to Hawaii and asked a man if it was pronounced as Ha why ee or Ha vie ee, and he said "Ha vie ee" they thanked him and he said in a thick German accent "You're velcome."
Dick, don't forget Versailles = Ver SALEs
My wife's cousin lives in northeast Texas on Caddo Lake. The little town near by is Uncertain, Texas. Surveyors weren't sure if they were in La. or TX - therefore the name "Uncertain."
