In light of the recent thread about head milling, I decided to ask those that have done it how they set it up? Considering a Bridgeport knee type milling machine with a fly cutter being the equipment, have and how did any of you set the head up? I can think of a few ways I would go about it but I want to hear from any of you Cracker Jack old timers how y'all did it. Thanks in advance and I hope y'all have some input.

I miked the head bolt spotfaces and found four the same.
Set it up on 1-2-3 blocks with a couple studs through 1 & 4 plug holes.

Did pretty much the same as Gruber but I machined the tops off 1st then blocks under those spots and tied down there and thru spark plug holes till I was close the removed the ones in the way and left the ones in the plug holes.

Can't think of another way other than what you are getting/seeing from the others...you need to make a jig. Better the jig - better the results.

Thanks Y'all, I'm going to do it some day. I once had a t with domed pistons and a non shaved head and it had a lot of power.

I have to say, I am extremely impressed with those of you that can make jigs and such like the one above. It may seem simple to you, but that takes creativity and ingenuity, in addition to good welding skills. Nice work!

I like that jig more all the time. I am going to make one just for the heck of it even if I have no need for one as I run a Z head.

I should be ripping off some of these photos of jigs. I don't have a great big shop but I have a friend down the road with a really great shop.
