I'm going to be in the Tallahassee area around Thanksgiving and am thinking of going to the car museum there. Have any of you been there and would you recommend it? Any other T or antique car things to do in the area? Big flea market?
I was there on a Winter Tour a few years ago, that was in Tallahassee That is a fantastic Museum. Could spend a day there. Lots of everything. Plan on going back soon.
I second Richard's comment, in spades!
The museum is right off of I-10, just east of Tallahassee, at an exit. There are signs on I-10, but not many -- you have to watch for it.
The story, as I remember it, is that the owner, or founder, of the museum is a fellow who made a tidy fortune owning mini-storage facilities. He was something of a collector of all kinds of things. He had an old building down the road from the present facility (where I first visited), and when he out-grew it he built this really marvelous new building to house his collections.
You'll see collections of practically anything you can name. There are probably more than 100 cars, including the movie's original Batcar, and I could write a full page listing other collections that are there.
As Richard said, plan on a full day there. I'm pretty sure they serve some lunch food, but if not the fellow at the desk, who is laconic but nice, would steer you to a nearby eatery and then let you back in without paying again, I'm sure.
WELL WORTH THE TRIP!!!!
Thanks for the input---sounds like a good place to visit!!
