What size do the pictures need to be to post them. I am using Photogadget that is in the computer and going 320 x 180 and it is too big. Cannot remember what I did in the past.

Dennis,
It is not the size of the image as in 320 x 180 pixels that counts, it is the size of the image file. The file size limit is 194kb.

The size of an image is composed of two separate parts.

One part is the dimensions of the image in in pixels. A good size for posting is up to about 800 pixels wide and maybe a little less vertically. For example a image that is 600 pixels high and 800 pixels wide would fit well on most computer screens. There is no limit on the dimensions that can be posted and the dimensions of the image are not directly related to the file size.

The other important part of the image is the file size and this is limited to 194 kb (kilobytes)for posting here. If you view a photo on your computer or online you should be able to right click on the photo and select Properties or View Image Info to see the photo dimensions and the file size.

If your image file size or quality is too large (over the 194 kb limit) you can use a photo editor to reduce the file size or there are many options if you do a Goggle search for photo resizing.

Jim

Dennis,
Try PicResizer.com. Free, click on "download", very easy to use (just use the default setting), let's you save it to the same file and drops it under the limit of the MTFCA forum to 600x450jpg. Still produces a great picture. Hope this helps.

If you open the pic with microsoft picture manager you can edit size. I use 400 by 400 pixels and they look fine on the threads.

Those free resizing websites work fine. Using the software that comes with the computer is easy on a Mac. I hate resizing with my Windows machine, which is clunky and annoying. In any case, I adjust the height as high as possible (up to 700 pixels) without going over 194 KB. 700 fits the screen and the width takes care of itself.

I use FastStone photo resizer 3.1, it's free for home use but requires a license for commercial use. Easy to use and has a lot of options, adding watermarks, copyright info, renaming and has a bulk option. Can be down loaded from: www.faststone.org

David.

As a practical matter, I have found that pictures just under the file size limit are accepted, but often extend past the right edge of screen, require left-right scrolling to see the whole picture. I usually shoot for a file size below 130 KB.
