I'm measuring a crank - OK - not a T crank but a European grand kid - 1172 ccm Eifel engine.
Now that I have found out the diameter I can see it is 0.0205" under the nominal diameter. If we for a while disregard the 0.0005 and say it was 0,020 under - would it then be 0.020 U.S. shells I should buy or 0.010 U.S. - 0,010 being the "clearance" around the journal if it was STD.
Due to the 0.0005" I will most like have them ground down to 0.030 as the journals are somewhat scored, but I just need to be sure to buy the right shells.
If its 20 thou under you buy 20 thou oversize bearings, simple like that.
No Ken, If it's .020 undersize you buy.020 UNDERSIZE bearings.
The bearings are thicker but the hole through them is smaller(undersizeed).
OK - I also assumed it was as simple like that, but better safe than sorry.
Here you see how scored the journals are, so I'll have it grinded to next undersize.
Thank you guys.
