I was at a local meet today, a 25 (?) barn fresh touring arrived, the guy that drove it was told it was a 24 , the engine is a june 25 and it appears the car is untouched ,
is there any noticable difference in the two years ??

none that I know of. If you saw a picture of a 24 and 25 together, they look basically the same.

My profile pic is a 25 with some known 24 parts.

Shawn,

From a practical standpoint, the difference between a late 1924 and and early 1925 is the engine serial number. But there are noticeable differences between and early 1924 and a late 1925.

The earlier 1924s had more wood in the bodies and the unequal door hinges. The 1925s had more of the wood framing replaced by metal brackets and had the equal length door hinges. See the posting: Approximately When did Ford introduce the equal length door hinges that are commonly found on the 1925 touring and roadsters?

Also the emergency brake quadrant was changed from four rivets to two rivets during aproximately mid-1925 production and continued into the 1926-27 production: (Thanks Steve Jeff for posting the photo!)

For 1925 the balloon 21 inch tires and wheels also were offered as an option as well as the nickel radiator shell (in the USA – New Zealand and Australia had them available for several years before that).

And the Patent plate when from for rivets to two rivets holding them to the firewall sometime during 1925.

And of course depending on when and where the car was assembled there would have been some overlap when both styles of bodies, hinges, brake quadrant etc. were produced at the same time.

And looking at William’s top reminded me that in late 1925 the top went from two window openings in the back to a single larger opening that was continued into the 1926-27 production. That allowed the review mirror to work better.

And the 1924 only had the 4 to 1 gears in the steering and the 1925 had either the 4 to 1 or had the steering gear case marked with 5 to 1 for cars equipped with the balloon tires.

I'm pretty sure mine has the 4:1 steering gear ratio. Mine does not have equal length door hinges.

As to the OBVIOUS differences, you would have to be fairly astute in spotting the differences listed here. Put a late 24 and an early 25 together, and the cars look basically identical.

From what I have read, the use of a new part was not instantaneous but was introduced while remaining supplies were used up. So there could be some crossover in production.
