Last day of a fantastic tour put on by Jennifer and Ross Lileker. Their hard work paid off in a wonderful tour for all of us!
I was lazy and did not take many pictures today. Mechanical failures included a couple rear axles that lost their old babbit thrust washers, a transmission drum grenaded, a blown head gasket, and some flat tires.
Wow, your place looks like it needs a little yard work and fixing up.
Otherwise it looks like a great outing with the Ts. To bad about your wipeout Royce. Hope you are better.
That sounds like a few too many breakdowns. But I have been on tours like that. What is an average number of breakdowns per ten cars on big tours?
Thank you, Royce, I hope you are feeling better.

Yeah, I thought the same. We can all have failures - I had one last year on a vacation trip but even though I put some pride in that my T just works flawlessly, I do mistakes and learn. I just don't understand why people turn up to tours or events with cars that are definitely not in shape for it. And since you can get "everything" only funding is the only excuse I may accept (as I have that challenge currently my self).
How many cars was participating in this tour? I can see from the pictures from day 1 that it was more than just a couple of handfuls.
Sometimes, what is really fun, is to take a car that hasn't been run in many years and take it on a major trip. Part of the special bond we get with our cars, is that we CAN drive them beyond what most people ever could. We learn how to work on them and fix them. Sometimes the challenge is to complete a tour or trip after a breakdown.
I have told of many such drives and endurance runs on this forum. But I still don't expect very many cars on a tour to have serious trouble. About one in ten may have a flat tire or other routine maintenance issue like a carburetor problem. Babbitt thrust washers should not fail, because they should be gone. Some other things, sometimes, some things just fail when the're ready.

Went on one tour years ago in the USA and a guy turned up with a car which was "broken" seems he did it every year expecting those on the tour to fix it for him.
This year they didn't!!! he got the message.
I heard 103 cars were registered. I know at least a couple of people brought more than one car. I would guess about 10 cars were out of commission for major repairs. I undoubtedly did not see or hear about more than half the failures.
