I thought we might a new thread for this as there seems to be a rather large Armature radio presence in the group. My Yaesu VX-5 HT doesn't seem to like the 146.58...Would anyone mind if we used 146.055 ? I’m going make a point to meet all the Hams at the event. I received my ticket around 20 years ago and in between then and now have earned my Extra class. I did have one HF rig but between the family and other things I sold it but have always used the two meter.
I don't know what you mean by your HT "doesn't like" 146.58. 146.52 is the standard 2 meter Simplex frequency and so 146.58, an alternative designated Simplex frequency, should not be a problem. Be sure to set it up as simplex, NOT repeater offset and you should be OK. Hope to meet you there.
I just dusted off my old VX-1R and have it on charge. I will be listening on 146.58 MHz simplex for any and all in the Amateur radio fraternity. Hope to meet many this year. This could be a lot of fun. Thanks for stirring it up Will.

Just don't use it in yer Model T Mike. Y'know there's no place for solidstate 'lectrics in Model T's!

Will, Congratulations on earning your Extra ticket.
Hope you were successful in programming your HT to the alternate simplex frequency 146.58MHz for Hershey, if not, I'll try giving you a shout on 146.055MHz. I suggested use of 146.58 MHz since 146.52MHz is the national calling frequency back in the rock bound days and folks were suppose to move off to another designated simplex frequency once contact was established.
I was thinking that all T'ers were HAMS in some way or another, or am I wrong ????? This has been to nice of a post. Dose anyone know K7QOM
