My mag has never been right, if if go down the road at regular speed on mag it keeps missing or popping every so often and at low rpm,s. it is hard to keep running, it runs great on battery it is putting out electricity on mag but not even, could it be the mag post?
John
It could be a dirty mag post so give cleaning it a try first.
The next thing you should do is correctly measure the output of the magneto to see if it is sufficient power operate the ignition coils.
Then you can decide the next step.

How much power should be at the post?
Bring the RPM's up on the engine and use an analog voltmeter. A digital will just jump around and wont work. Be sure to use the AC side of the meter and look for something around 30 volts AC.
Ron, please correct me on this procedure if I'm wrong. This isn't the first time I've use such advice and have just been assuming I'm close compared to what I've been told by others and have seen on my own T's with rebuilt Magneto.

There are two CORRECT ways to test a Model T magneto.
The first is with an analog ac voltmeter and a 1156 bulb in parallel with the meter leads as a load. This method can be tricky if the results are not evaluated by a knowledgeable user.
The second is the absolutely foolproof use of the St. Louis tester made by FunProjects.
I can help with both.
All other methods discussed on this Forum are unreliable at best.

Here is a thread with photos on how to measure the mag voltage. Make sure you are measuring the mag voltage correctly. You have to use an analog meter, a digital will not work.

Once you do that you should have a very good idea if the mag is working or not.
