I am building a new wood frame for a 1925 2 door coupe. All the wood is gone. I need a starting measurement for the wood frame from the end of the steel frame to the back. In other words, how far past the steel frame does the trunk area extend? I've been reading alot on here, but haven't found this measurement on any diagram that is big enough to read. Would appreciate any help.

David, if nobody can give you the measurement you need, all is not lost. If you have the body metalwork then you have a reference to start with. I am not familiar with US T bodies, but if you make your timbers an inch longer than is indicated and make the cross member an inch wider also, a power saw will quickly reduce the length when you have it established.

The previous owner of my current Australian bodied Tourer did not know how high the back panel was, as it was cut off to make a rear tailgate. He made an overwidth cross piece which allowed me to cut it down when I could establish the correct height.

Hope this helps.

David,

Recommend you contact Ron Buckley who wrote an excellent article on rewooding his 1925 Canadian Ford Coupe (very similar to USA coupes) published in the Nov-Dec 1970 “Vintage Ford”.
Please see the posting at: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/29/45766.html and scroll down to the Ron Buckley’s current contact information (e-mail, mailing, and phone). He drew up a set of rewooding plans for his 1925 Canadian coupe. While there are some variations between the Canadian and USA coupes as well as variations between the 1924 – 1925 USA coupe bodies I believe you will find the plans very helpful to you.

I noticed this is your first posting. Welcome aboard. If you are already familiar with Model Ts that is great, you will be able to help many of us in the future. If you are brand new to Model Ts recommend you verify that you do indeed have a 1925 coupe. Many cars are titled by the engine numbers and many of the engines have been swapped over the years. The USA and Canadian 1924-25 model year coupes have the doors hinged at the front. [There is one known exception of a Canadian 1924 that was a high cowl coupe but still used the 1923 style body with the doors hinged at the rear. If anyone knows of other exceptions please let us know.]

If you are not already a member of a local T club, I would highly recommend you check out the ones nearest to you. See the listings at: http://mtfca.com/clubpages/chapters.htm and http://www.modelt.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=15 They can be a great support group to you in your efforts.

You may also want to consider restoring the chassis and obtaining a temporary body such as a speedster or express wagon -- see the photos at: http://mtfca.com/gallery/index.htm and click on speedster and trucks – the one at: http://mtfca.com/gallery/photos/bombria.jpg and http://mtfca.com/gallery/photos/chuck.jpg . Those bodies are very simple to build and would allow you to drive the chassis while you restore the coupe body.

See also the following posting about 24-25 coupes and recommend you do a search on posting by Sosnoski. Dave Sosnoski is writing a book about the 1924-25 coupes and has numerous great photos etc about them. And he has experience rewooding a 1924 coupe. For example they had different ways the roof was joined to the front pillar etc.
