Need some tips on how to prep & paint (type, brand etc.) to use on the new firewall I purchased from Lang's. My coupelet is unrestored so show quality is not needed.

Thanks

I'd shoot it with rattle can Rustoleum (I prefer the satin finish). No primer needed.

The proper stain and Urethane Spar Varnish in a can. Easier than brushing.

Dave -- They were painted black on 16's.

Although I usually agree with Steve, In this case, I suggest you prim the wood with Rustoleum red primer, Sand, then coat with a gloss black enamel. You will end up with a finish very close to the original. You probably don't want to do this more than once.

John -- I agree with your method of prime, sand, and paint, but also with Steve's choice of semi-gloss paint rather than gloss in this case. Since Philip isn't restoring the whole car, the gloss black firewall would be the only shiny part on it. :-).

I found some glossy paint on the inside of the firewall hood former so all is not lost :-). Semi-gloss Rustoleum will work for me plus it's cost effective.

Silly me! I was thinking steel, not wood. Yes, prime first.
