About to order front wheel bearings. I see there is a conversion available. So less expensive outer bearings than the threaded type can be used. Anyone done this? Or should I just stick to original type?

Here's one of the earlier discussions about Lang's economy replacement outer bearings:

They work, but they're hard to adjust.

I've used them and would classify adjustment as annoying, but not difficult. There are no wrench flats on the inner race of the outer bearing, so you need padded jaw slipjoint pliers to do final "tweaks". So far, they've held up fine, but to be honest, once the real deal...Timken...were back in stock, I purchased several sets to have on hand.

The only trick to them is to run them on and off the threads a few times to ease the fit of the threads, then clean everything really well, pack them and install them.

Unless your old ones are really horrably worn or pitted,,use the old ones for now.(Unless your doing some super high end restoration verses a fun car) If what you have just seems to look a little crummy they will probably do for a while.
Clean up everything hospital clean in and out so any grit won't get lodge in the pitts to cause adavcing ware. Use high quailty grease and run them till you save up for the right ones or when availble..Its an easy job to do later on.
If you can buy the right ones buy them(Unless not available and you don't want to wait)don't be too thrifty and buy the cheaper make-do bearing set up. Those are consession that you always regret,

Stupid question but do you have new seals on hand so you don't get stuck when you REALLY wanna get it done?
