Well I have come back to help some of you struggling Australian restorers and I will watch this for a while only. Please take note.
Hi all. It's been a while since I have been here as I have too many jobs at home to do so the T is buried in the back of the shed for a while with my other cars. This notice has come to my attention so I am passing it on to you as it will now cost more to get your parts plus you will need a free trade certificate from the seller.. SEE THE ATTACHMENT.
The Government has reinstated the duty on imported parts by individuals, this has come into effect as far as I know some weeks ago. There is now a customs duty of 5% or more on any order over $100 dollars so I am told which I can not verify at this time but to just slip it past the clubs is a low act on top of the GST if you bring the parts in by mail for any vehicle over thirty years of age so please see the attachment and contact your local member for his support in stopping this.... Ray

Now for the parts seller please note what you now have to supply with each order you send to Australia

This note is what caused me to look....
Removal of Tariff Concession for Vehicles Older Than 30 Years.

From May 2012 this concession was revoked and the relevant parts will now attract a minimum 5% duty plus GST

Exception: if the vehicle parts are made in the US from US materials they should be covered by the US-AUS Free Trade Agreement. If bringing in parts from the US it is recommended that the supplier identify US manufactured goods on the invoice and supply a Free Trade Agreement Declaration..
Notice they say Minimum 5% so what will it go up to, 85% like in the 1970,s before we all fought to get rid of it.

Thank you Ray. Good to hear from you again. As the Secretary for the Veteran Car Club of South Australia I can tell you that this has already been forwarded to our South Australian Federation of Vintage Car Clubs for discussion. It has also been put on the VCCSA agenda for our next committee meeting. Once again the Australian clubs & all of their members need to unite and fight another pathetic government decision.

Australians reading this posting do not bury your heads and think "let someone else do it". This is our hobby and we all need to join and fight this. I am old enough to remember and pay the "government charges" back in the 70's & 80's. We all know our governments at both state & federal level are bankrupt and will do anything to gather more cash. For the first time in living memory we now have the "middle class working poor".

What can you do? Contact your club & demand the letters be written to your MP's and relevant ministers. You personally can write letters to both your MP and both state & federal ministers.

Dave Chantrell, just another over taxed, over charged, over levied, ripped off Aussie. The state & federal elections can't come soon enough...

David and David, firstly I dig up lots of this stuff by being able to read news papers instead of Ipads and listening to the reports of our reps even through some of the members will not shut up about the weekend and others dont worry as its not my problem. I am unsure what is happening at the Sydney club but it should come up at the Friday night meeting then lets see who sticks their head in the sand as it affects all of us. Answers I get from people I talk to are, I have a local built car and I go to repco so I dont need to worry and that what you get so get a real local car to quote just two.
We need all the T club members to get off their behinds and do some thing as well as tell the other make clubs because it affects them as well and I am not going to fight for those who are just sitting there and dont care any more thats why I put it up here so so its up to you to spread the word and quickly.
Thank you David C as at least you are getting it under way down there but I feel you will not get a lot of help.... Ray

Members in Australia

When you order parts from the States, please tell the vender what documentation you need to "get it right" and if you can supply any forms that might be needed. The paperwork to ship out of country seems to change every few months and its hard to stay on top of.
I work at a business that ships non-T antique car parts around the world daily and just is not as easy as it used to be.

Bill

David D, I think I should say that about 1% of the country read the Federal Government Gazette outside the ACT and most people have never seen the state gazettes outside the public service.
I read the Federal Gazette when I think of it looking for government and Defense contracts and items for sale.. Ray
To Bill, have you a copy of this Free Trade Agreement Declaration. that you could put up here so we can see what its like and what we need please... Ray

I am clueless on this. I have no idea idea what documentation is required by other countries to save them $$$ on import duties. I only know what forms are needed to meet minimum export regulations.

Looking at the Australia-US Free Trade Act I find the importer must do the justification.

Article 5.12 states:

12. Claims for Preferential Treatment (Article 5.12)

Under the Agreement, the onus for making a claim for preferential treatment for a product rests with the importer. This is a change from the practice under the FTA with Singapore and the Closer Economic Relations Agreement with New Zealand, both of which place the onus on the exporter.

This Agreement does not require that the importer provide a certificate of origin in support of a claim preference. However, importers claiming a preference for a good must be prepared to submit, upon request by Customs authorities, a statement setting out the reasons that the good qualifies, including pertinent cost and manufacturing information. No particular format for such a statement is specified in the Agreement.

Customs officials can require importers to maintain documents relating to purchases and costs for up to five years after importation should investigation and verification of claims be required. Customs officials can also seek information from exporters in verifying claims.
