Looked at Hershey, however couldn't find any Model R (Schebler) floats or kits. Restoration Supply did have a float (new material) for a Model D, but it was a bit to big outer diameter.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Rob
I believe they have a cork float. I have found that to shape cork a grinder works pretty well. I get a nice smooth surface with no breaking. I use a bench grinder for as much shaping as possible and then go to a die grinder.
Sometimes to drill holes using a thin wall piece of tubing works well to make a clean hole. I have found that sometimes just pushing it through works sometimes. The tube can also be spun like a drill as well.
I hope this helps.

I have material made for floats that comes from a company in Massachusetts. It is specifically made for use with gasoline and other petroleum based products. It is some kind of closed cell foam. It is easy to shape and at least to this point, shows no effects of being soaked in the modern alcohol blended gasoline that is common. One thing to consider in making floats is the weight of the original. The bouyancy of the float must match the needle and seat opening pattern.
By the way Rob, used Schebler floats should be easy to find, the R was a very popular carb. New ones are being reproduced for some of the later Scheblers used on Motorcycles and one of them probably is correct for an R.
Thanks guys. I've also heard from Stan direct. This is for our K. At Hershey Tim Kelly had his K and it ran great with a Holley K carb. However, I'm not in a position to change carbs because the car stayed at Hershey and I fly back in a few weeks to take it on a tour.
I'm hoping to either have an R to replace it with, or float and gaskets to replace the ones in the carb.
Thanks again,
Rob
