Greetings!
We rebuilt the generator and got it working well. But now: strange problem. The generator is overheating. Still, the volts going in and out are good (6.33 in; 7 to about 9 out).
What could it be?
I don't understand what you are writing about? There should be no volts going into the generator. Only volts coming out of it. Maybe you need a cutout.
Norm
It's going to burn up pretty quick if you have 9 volts coming out of the 6V generator.
Recommend you:
1. Disconnect the wire to the generator from the battery. Wrap that wire terminal with tape so it won't short out on anything.
2. Connect the generator to ground (frame, engine block) with a heavy guage wire (4 or larger).
Then you can safely drive the car until you get a Fun Projects voltage regulator. The battery won't charge but at least you won't fry the generator or blow up the battery.

It is useless to talk about Model T generator voltage.
What is the charging rate in Amperes?
The Model T generator is a current source. If the "rebuilt and got it working generator" was improperly adjusted it can charge too high and get very hot because the brush plate lead is not correctly set. Believe me this is easy to do if you do not understand how a third brush regulation generator works.
Give me a call tomorrow 11am-4pm EST and will coach you through a simple process to correct what I believe is your problem.
Ron the Coilman
Just out of curiosity, how did you check to see that the generator was actually overheating? Usually, they overheat once and then give up the ghost.
Thanks, Royce and Ron for these ideas. Yes, Ron, we'll call you tomorrow. Will this number work? Phone 1: 508 533-5222 ? Cameron, yes it is lucky that it is still working at all. Fingers crossed.

Thanks, Ron. Yes, we adjusted the brush plate and the third brush and got the amps down. Now, since it is still overheating, I'm sending it in to Tom at International wiring, 729 N. Harvard Ave, Villa Park, Il, 60181 for an armature rebuild.
Cal, why not send the entire generator to Ron for a rebuild. He is good, reasonably fast, and reasonably priced.
It will be right when you get it back provided you follow his instructions and install a Fun Projects regulator.
