I already have a beige duster, cap, goggles and gloves, but isn't there a white ford mechanic coast that has the ford script on the back and a cap with ford script on the front?

Yes to both. The mechanics' coats are advertised from time to time in the VF. I have also seen a white newsboy-type cap somewhere. Dealer catalogs, perhaps?

Dick, I thought they stopped making the Ford version last April?

Erich, you're apparently right. I went to the website and they don't offer it any more.

I am shocked they can still sell the other brands but don't sell enough Fords to keep it going?

Erich,

I don't think it has anything to do with not being able to sell them.

I think it has everything to do with not wanting to pay the huge licensing fee charged by Ford for the use of the trademark.

Mike.

For the hat try this Amazon store. Only $5.25.

For the guys with big heads - don't forget to look at the big sizes when looking at the hat.

I just spoke to the gentleman who makes the vintage shop coats. He confirmed that the license has gotten too expensive. Very nice man. He does sell the coat without the script.

The website says this toward the bottom:

quote:

Blank coats are available for $67.50. Call for information.

Just get the coat and add your own Ford patches or iron-ons.

I got a 3 pack of surplus shop coats from "Sportsman's Guide" for about $20.00 and put a large winged Ford patch on the back. Got a period-ish hat at H&M for under $10.00.

Eric or anybody, where can we buy a large enough winged ford script? I can have it sewn onto a coat.

This is the coat Erich mentioned. It's Czech military, sold by Sportsman's Guide at $19.95 for three. With shipping, that works out to about $9 per coat. For the patch I downloaded a picture from the internet and took it to a local embroidery shop, where the lady made three patches for $10 each. Caps are sold at various stores (Sears, Penney's, Macy's, etc., at various times and at various prices. Being both picky and cheap, I shop around.

Steve nailed it. Cheap minds think alike. I added a small patch on the front of mine from ebay that says "Volunteer Henry Ford Hospital" just above the breast pocket. Most folks don't notice it, but some do. Works out well as the outer layer on our non summer tours as the sleeves tuck into my driving gloves. The hat and a period scarf makes me road ready. I have a plain blue shop coat from "Red Ball"? that I use in the shop.

Just a word of caution guys.
Have you ever read the letter Ford licensing attorneys send to those violating their trademarks?
I have, they are very threatening and don't beat around the bush about preserving their rights. They include photos of items people make without license found on the internet.
Keep your head down.

those check shop oats are not very big so if you are a 44 or bigger it will be a tight fit. John
