Hey Y'all
It's time for the annual Model Ts to Olar festival
in Olar, SC this weekend Oct 19, 20 & 21.
I've known about it for years but this will be our first time going.
I went in 2008. Reminded me of what I perceived "T" days to have been. It's a little country town in the middle of nowhere. It's too small to have a county fair, so, this is the closest they can get to it. I saw actual families drive in from the farm and pile out of their pickup cab with the kids' eyes glowing like they had never seen such sites as the flashing lights and music around the inflatable slide, and concessionairs selling things they'd never seen, like funnel cakes. And there was even a live elephant or a camel (I forget which) they could sit on! In the gazeebo were guys picking banjos and guitars. I was able to park my motorhome alongside of the road,-- seems like you'd have a pretty good drive to get to a motel or restaurant. People live around there, but all the town seemed closed except one convenience store and a garage. They put on a parade of the T's around town. Kind of a relaxing, laid back day. I enjoyed it, but, It's a long drive for me and I haven't polished my brass in over a month. If you see a 15 touring running around and a motorhome and trailer sitting along the lower end of the field, look me up. Mike
I recognize the center pic as being Dick Chambers '12 peach hack. Dick was nice enough to take the drive down from Lexington and give our newly acquired 27 roadster a once over.
Gary, are you going? I'm still undecided. It's about a 4 hour drive for me and I just got back from Hershey. What I really liked about Olar was that it was T's. Most shows nowadays are about chrome and power and have very few T's. There will probably be more T's in Olar than at a show with 500 cars. There was a variety of T's and, people brought them out because they know folks like to look at all T's--not just 100 point show cars!
Mike, we're no longer members of scmtfca tho still receive their e-mail updates. We won't be attending. Too busy preparing for a move to Cuenca Ecuador
¿Any T's around Cuenca?
Steve,
Unable to bring any auto older than 4 years or greater than 3 liters into Ecuador. We won't be bringing any of our cars with us. They'll be housed in NH with our son in law. There may be T's there. I guess I'll have to do some snooping once we're there (est. 6/2013).
I plan to be there. I haven't missed one in several years. I registered weeks ago, but my schedule is so crazy, I didn't know until a few minutes ago whether I was gonna make it. Looks like I should go load the TT on the trailer. Or I could just leave now in the TT and hope I got there by tomorrow morning . It's about 2-1/2 hours in the modern iron.
Just got home a couple of hours ago. Had a great time, as usual. Met Michael Mullis in person. Great guy. I keep hoping Hap will show up one year. I've yet to meet him in person.
any pictures? How many were there? Hopefully someone will mention it next year a couple of weeks before it starts.
Sorry, I didn't take any pics. There were about 20 T's there.
I'm glad it went great – the weather should have been excellent with not too cold or too hot. And yes, Hap is hoping to make it one of these years. I’m still juggling the work, home, honey-do-list, etc. I put a note on next year’s Aug calendar to remind me to post a note on the Forum as well as make plans myself.
Respectfully submitted,
