This Tuesday, 10 PM eastern, on the Velocity cable channel, Wayne Carrini will highlight the McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas....... the only college that I'm aware that has a automobile restoration program.
They will be assembling a Model T, body style unknown, in record time ????
One of our own MTFCA members, originally from northern New Jersey, who0 teaches at McPherson may also be featured........
Velocity cable channel, Tuesday October 23rd.
Check your cable guide !
Footage was taken over the first weekend in May when Mac held it's C.A.R.S car show. Last year I helped a fellow on his 26 coupe get it rebuilt(engine). Two weeks ago he did the rear axle. Sorry for the drift. We went to the show and If your wanting to see the club assemble their T go to you tube as I uploaded a video last May.
Hi all,
Yes, Tuesday's show will feature McPherson College. They spent a few days filming the students, projects, car show, campus and more in May. Wayne and his crew (2 people) were fantastic; lots of fun, great to talk to.
We are the only restoration program that offers a 4-year bachelors degree.
The car the T-build team uses is a 1926 Touring. It was their personal best time up until that date. They have since improved on their time.
Please take a look.
Thanks,
Chris
bump
Just pgmd it on dvr. It will be repeated several time over the next some days.
Can't get it on DirecTv here. Must be an HD only program.
What's the YouTube link?
On directTV it's channel 281. Our guide shows it at 9:00 pm Tue (central), then again several times shortly after. The channel guide says:
"Wayne's Apprentice" sports, Auto. (2012). College students build a Model T.
Also, the same evening in the 7:30-8:00 central slot is another "Chasing Classics" showing items from Lee Roy Hartungs collection. It's titled "Hartung: Mortorcycles.
Tonight on Velocity cable channel, 10 PM eastern.
Check your local listings.
Thanks Chris for your input. Your family still has the '13 Buick ??
Bob and all,
Thank you for bringing this back to the top. We are all looking forward to it here.
Bob, yes we still have the Buick. Actually my father has a touring and I have a roadster. Neither gets out too often (unfortunately) how did you know that?
Chris
There is no channel 281 on my DirecTv setup. 280, 282, 283, etc. but not 281. Not even an option for it.
I suspect it's HD only and I don't have a HD box.
Ken,
Yes, it is a HD channel.
Sorry,
Rob
Chris:
Met your grandfather at a North Jersey Buick show about 1992..... plus or minus a year or so. We has a 1950 Special Jet Back 4 door sedan with "Dynaslush " trans. It was a rolling sofa on wheels. The T came along in 1995.
Good show. It was a real change from his shows I used to catch on the dvr. I re-upped for it.
Good work, Chris.
Thanks,
rdr
Aw nuts, I missed it. Anybody know when it will be repeated?
Looks like it will be back on the morning of the 27th.

Chris:
Good show, too bad it was only a half hour. More detail of the curriculum would have been more beneficial, at least to me,
Thanks for any input you may have had in the presentation.
Bob Jablonski
15 minutes compressed into 15 seconds. Don't blink you'll miss it.
Bob,
That's been a lot of the problem with advertising our program. I'm a student at McPherson College, and the program is just so different it's hard to explain to people what it is that we do. The best way to understand it is to visit the campus. That way you can tour the facilities and talk to the students and faculty.
Jared:
Would there be any info on the college's website info to entice future students of auto restoration ?
Hi Bob and all,
Here is a link directly to the restoration page:
http://www.mcpherson.edu/autorestoration/
It should give you lots of information. Please feel free to post here and either Jared or I would be glad to respond, or contact me directly at paulsenc@mcpherson.edu
Thanks for remembering our Buick and my grandfather. Time sure goes by fast.
Bob,
Some, but the real problem is getting people there. If I hadn't read about Jay Leno's involvement in the program, I probably would never have even heard of the school.
In case you blinked.........the assembly full video

Chris, thanks for the link.
Ralph I hate to show my ignorance, but you need to speak geezer for a lot of us who aren't up on all this acronym stuff. This is the Model T forum!!! What's pgmd on the dvr?
I would love to go and attend this school for this program. Unfortunately, I am unwilling to move my family to Kansas.
We've had people move their families to Kansas to attend. Heck, I did it to work here. It's a great place to live and raise a family.
How about coming for a week? We offer institute classes in June. People come from around the world to attend. It is a lot of fun.

Sorry this ended up sounding like a sales pitch-that was not my intention.

For John P S,
"pgmd on the dvr" means programmed on the "digital video recorder". I may be close to geezerdom, but I used to work in cutting edge technology. I can still follow some of it, but do get lost occasionally. I especially get lost with some of the "texting shorthand", some of which gets used here.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Chris,
At least we've got people interested in the school. Maybe they'll wander over to the school's website, see that we're having a Car Show again in May, and decide to bring their cars. First weekend in May. Tell your friends!
Ok, now that we've advertised the school, Institute classes, and the Car Show, I think we can put away our Billy Mays hats and stop pitching McPherson College. haha
I visited the college over the summer and I was more than impressed with the facilities that they have. They are truly a professional program, and the program did not even scratch the surface. I know Chris is a professor there, maybe he can get together with a few students and make a few you tube videos for all of us to see. Maybe one at a time of the Machine shop, foundry, etc...
I am trying to convince the good wife to let me goto a institute class this sumer.
BTW Kansas is really a cool place. Schedule your trip around an anvil shoot or the state fair. Its something you will never forget.
John
