I am planning on building up a set of outer rear grease seals. Anyone have a good, easily available seal number I can fabricate around?
Hey Erich,
The one I use is a CarQuest number.
471076
There are a number of outer neoprene grease seals already on the market but you don't need them if you have a good inner seal. The outer felt seals only leak when the bearing grease gets diluted by rear axle oil. Good inner seals keep the oil from getting to the bearings.
I agree Glen, but I was able to get a good size leak of grease by adding toooooo much into the bearing. The felt couldn't hold it. I will use less but I also do not want to grease up my new linings.
Thanks Bob. Will try it out.
Chicago Rawhide number CR10515.
Thanks guys.
Glen Chaffin is right. You can use the original outer felt seals if you can keep the rear end oil out of the outer bearings. BTDT. Don't over grease the outer bearings. They only want a little bit of grease.
