How big a hole do I have to drill ???
George n L.A.
1/16"
Anyplace in particular ????
I put my hole in the center of the O in FORD.
The caps with no hole usually do not have a disk soldered on the bottom, but if there is one there, that will need a hole too.
You need to drill the cap from the outside in, so the air can get in. If you drill it from the inside out then only the fumes can get out but no air can get in.
Mark;
You've got to be kidding, right.
Mark is correct. To prove it sit in a boat and drill a hole in the bottom. Just see which way the water goes!!!lol
My 27 has a brass cap on it. I drilled about a 1/16 hole in the highest place, in the center.
Jerry;
Your about as confused as Mark. LOL
So drill a hole in the cap from above to let the air out. Then drill a hole in the bottom of the tank to let the air in?
Mine didn't have a hole either. One day we started from a cold garage and drove out into a very hot day. When I opened the cap there was actually positive pressure inside. I drilled a 1/16 hole in the cap and put a bandaid over it to filter out any particles but still allow breathing.
Does anybody sell the proper cap w/the baffle on the bottom?
Don Lang sells the late 25-27 gas cap with the baffle. They aren't cheap, but are nice.
Here is a couple of pictures of the original one that was on our Fordor. You will notice that the two air vent holes are not in line with each other. As Larry said the one that Lang's sell is a very good copy and seems to be the same as the Original Caps as far as I can tell. Regards, John
