I have a 1922 C.D. with no interior. from the pics ive seen ther seems to be hardware coming up thru the floor for the pass seat and drivers seat is on a bomb. Is there a shell around the tank and where is it positioned. stay tuned for upcoming adventures of back seat. thanks for any help.

Yes there is a shell around the tank. It is the drivers seat. Suggest you don't smoke also

People worry too much about sitting on top of the gasoline tank. More than twelve million model T Fords were built that way. Nearly three million of them had the tank in the cowl in front of the passengers. Five million model A Fords also had gas tanks in front of the driver, with a fold forward windshield that allowed the drivers cigarette ashes to drift with the wind by the gas cap when driving slow. Many millions of other marques also had gasoline tanks under the front seat or in cowls. Many pickups and other trucks continued to put the gasoline tank in the cab, behind the seat, well into the 1970s (and maybe later).
One time, while running an industrial gasoline engine, the fuel feed fitting ruptured in the bottom of the tank over the engine. More than a gallon of gasoline dumped right onto the manifold and engine head. It was a hot summer day. I happened to be standing where I could see it, dove in and hit the kill switch while the gas was still running out. The gasoline did not ignite. We held our collective breath for about a minute, then all started laughing.
Do gasoline tanks explode and burn? Sometimes. You are more likely to be killed in a random shooting than an exploding model T gas tank.
Drive carefully, and enjoy your T! W2

My old F-100 Camper Special had a pair of saddle tanks AND the one behind the seat... the rubber hose for the in-cab one was deteriorated (and I couldn't find a replacement in those pre-internet days), and if I forgot and filled it to the top it would smell like Gasoline until I burned off a couple gallons. Got me in the habit of not smoking in a vehicle!! (Getting in the habit of not smoking OUT of a vehicle - that took a lot longer!!!)

My '14 Hudson has the gas tank in the cowl and the filler in the DASH BOARD!
I always tell people it's handy for the smokers.
I've had it 40 years and it hasn't blown up yet.
Also...my '24 T tudor has the same (I think) tank as your centerdoor and it's no problem.

I tell people its an ashtray for unwanted passengers in my 25 Indiana. I also have the filler in the dash with a flip open lid held down by a wire.
