are there any wood or other material between body and frame on a C cab or square cab ton truck
Nope. Metal to metal.
on the metal cab there is
Both are metal but yeah, I think you're right Mark. I forgot about the two under the front sub rail on the closed cab.
No, the only wood blocks on the Steel cabs, (that I can remember right now) are found between the transmission mount ears on the inside of the frame until 1924, then underneath the short style running boards until 1925. The lower steering column mount has one between it and the frame.
Fred
Fred you're talking about a totally different set of blocks. The TT square cab does have body blocks on the front of the cab only.
This image shows that the only way to hold up the front of the cab is to have a block running from the mount on the frame out to the mount for the cab. Without this block, there's no way to hold up the cab in the front, other than the firewall bracket.
Same block just a different angel
Mark, can you give the dimensions of those blocks? Thanks, KB
I do know these blocks are copies of originals. But I don't know if they are "exact" copies.
In the drawing I created, I don't know the angel of the cut on the outside edge on the cab end. I also don't know the "location" of the bolt holes in reference to the outside edges of the blocks, but the distance between the holes is what these measure. In order to get those measurements, I'd have to remove a block. It's not the easiest thing to measure installed.
I have never seen the Closed Cabs held up with wood but rather a pressed steel piece with a spacer on top. Maybe Ford Changed them. Does anyone have pictures of the Metal ones. This should be the part numbers of these mounts and spacers:
Front Body Brackets RH TT12506 and LH TT12513
Front Body Bracket Spacers TT12675. ( Fits Right or Left side).
Mark, now you got me curious. Fred
Thanks for your trouble Mark. I appreciate your going to such lengths to get the measurements. Good folks on this forum always come through! Have fun, KB
Fred, as far as I know my dad is the 2nd owner of that truck. He purchased it back around 1967 or maybe 68. It sat in his garage basically untouched, until he started the restoration 17 years ago. I know there were wooden blocks under the cab then, and we just made new ones since we had the body off anyway. He made the blocks, so like I said, I don't know if they're exact copies. They might have been a little wider, but I really wouldn't think he would have made them smaller than what was there.
