Are you guys ready?
I wonder how this is affecting Rob Heyen.
Battening down the hatches here in virginia!
Unless he's on the East coast, there's nothing to worry.
Hurricane Sandy is heading right for our front doors in Ocean County, New Jersey.
Anyone have extra "Mae-West"'s ????
Rob is supposed to be driving from Hershey to Savannah.
I moved my car from my house to a private garage....
Im as ready as i can be
Hope everyone in the path of Sandy is prepared and remains safe. I'm supposed to fly into Harrisburg PA Wed afternoon, then taxi to Hershey to pick up the truck and trailer (with our N and K) and drive on to Savannah.
Our little Mennonite Church in Nebraska said a prayer for all who will be affected by the storm.
Rob
Getting lots of rain now, they have issued Coastal Flood And High Wind Warnings for the Tidewater area (VA).
We should be fine..both T's are out of the weather in the barn!
Looks like those north of us might be in for a tough time...BE Safe
Getting ready in ct. The t's in the shed all covered up
Light spritzing rain right now. Too far from the ocean to expect that kind of damage where I live. Main concern will probably be the wind. Seems to be comming out of the North right now. Very light so far. If I had to pick a direction that would be it. Tree wise that is.
Hope you and yours all hang tough guys. Just watched some video from Florida and NJ....looking like a storm!
Here on Long Island, we're bracing for the hit. I bought some green bananas, apples, canned tuna and fresh bread. Got some fresh batteries for the flashlights and radio. Got about ten gallons of distilled water and—if you'll pardon the expression—a buttload of toilet paper. Tied all the patio furniture down to the back deck, pulled in all the potted plants and so, the hatches have been battened down. Storm is supposed to hit in full force tomorrow, but right now, the winds have picked up and rain has begun. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost power for a week. I hope it won't be much worse than that.
Like I said in my e-mail Bob, this one is going to be bad. I hope your house isn't right on the coast of Long Island. Storm surge at high tide is probably going to be the worst factor for you folks on the island.
Doesn't look like Rob is going to fly to PA. Maybe he better just warm up the tractor and harvest some corn.
Harrisburg forecast has flood and high wind warnings through Tuesday. Must be too far away to tell about Wednesday. Weather should improve as Rob goes south and Sandy goes north.
Bob-
If you were older I'd give you a bad time about buying green bananas...
: ^ )
I wish SAFETY to all you guys on the east coast.
-Keith
Winds rising. 30-40 mph. Cape May reports 19 foot waves. No rain yet.
I've heard,"I wouldn't live in Florida, because of all the hurricanes". Well now, I wonder what they are saying now?
To the people who are going to be affected by this hurricane and weather, I wish you Good luck and be safe.
God be with you.
At 6:54am <monday> here in Trenton its at the moment just a light rain with light gusty winds about 25mph. Looks like land fall around 7:00pm. My dog dosent want to go outside.
Its 7:10am in Virginia and there are moderate winds and rain. I'm at the office, but most of my people are not. The government is shut down, including the navy base I support, schools closed etc. I'll stick around until it looks prudent to head home. The T is all snuggled in its garage, high and dry.
We're by Valley Forge west of Philadelphia. Been having bands of wind and rain all night, heavy rain just started a few minutes ago. Been told to expect very heavy rain and high winds the rest of today into tomorrow and likely power outages. T's are snug in their sheds, we're snug in the house. Son and girlfriend left yesterday driving west into Ohio, should have missed most of it.
Thanks for the updates, guys. Just hope your roof stays on, and the creeks don't rise.
My wife and I live not too far from New York City in lower Fairfield County, Connecticut, about five miles inland. The rain is light and the wind is just starting to pick up. The local forecast is predicting heavy rain and strong wind with gusts up to 90 MPH starting at about noon today and lasting for about 12 hours.
Last evening the hospital where my wife works as an RN called and asked that she come to work. They suggested that she bring her toothbrush....as she may be there for a few days.
We are hoping for the best but expecting less.....
Time will tell..........
1200 noon and just a steady rain and gusty winds...I think the coast is getting hammered.
Do all you guys in the hazard zone have multiple ways to contact other Forum regulars who could relay your status? I know it will be low on your priorities, but we would hate to wait a week wondering if you're ok, but just lost power and unable to get on the Forum.

Rainy and gusty in ct now
My son and daughter-in-law were waiting on Concourse C of Lambert St Louis airport on Good Friday 2011 when a tornado blew in all the windows and ripped off part of the roof right at their gate. They are now living in New York and waiting for Sandy. I e-mailed him a short time ago and said that I assumed that, if he and Katie ever move to California, we will read about a huge earthquake there. His answer was, "We're pretty much used to the apocalypse at this point."
If a generator is available, get one. I have a Honda EU3000 generator that I purchased in 2004 just before a string of 3 hurricanes came right through the central Florida area, within 15 miles of where I live, all within a one month period. The electricity was out in some areas of Bartow for a month, but it didn't bother me. That generator powered my refrigerator, my microwave, 2 TV's, a fan in every room (for coolness) and a lamp in every room of the house and there was enough juice left over to run extension cords to my next door neighbor's house to power his refrigerator, microwave and TV and a couple of lamps. Driving through Bartow at night, every house was dark all the way from town until you turned onto my street our house shown like beacons. We had plenty of fresh food and cold beer for the endurance and since we had a propane water heater, we had hot water and a cooking stove as well.
Also, on the news last night, I heard one New Jersey citizen say he was prepared, that he had several gallons of water and masking tape for the windows. Just a word of caution. Don't waste your time masking your windows. Paper masking tape, and even vinyl duct tape will not hold up to wind, hail, limbs, or debris being blown at 90 mph. Only plywood (3/8" minimum) will protect windows from breakage in conditions like that and it is crucial to keep the windows from breaking, for if they break and the interior of your house is subjected to 90 mph winds, your roof will blow off and, since the roof joists ties the walls together and keeps them rigid, they will blow away as well.
Good luck.
Jim Patrick
PS Here it is. A superb generator, well worth the price.
I bought a Troybuilt 5550 Watt 120-220V generator with a 10 HP Briggs & Stratton engine at a Flea Market last yr. for $250.00. Used it when they were working on my home. My Onan generator on my Motor Home wouldn't start. Now both Work great.
Don't think Sea Side's going to look the same on Wednesday morning. Hope Maruga's Pizza makes it through but I doubt it. Weird so far gusty then calm. Driving rain.
4pm Here on Gwynn's Island Va. Tarp blew off of the TT.
Flooding not to bad,Very windy. Just a few small limbs down. All the Docks are above the tide now.
Bad winds comming tonight.
Fred
our prayers are with all of you in the path of Sandy. Good luck and hope you weather the storm.
Noel
The terrible thing about this is that it is occurring during a full moon which means high tides and a devastating storm surge, not to mention the fact that it is coming in at an angle whereby the strongest winds on the north east side are combining with the forward speed of the storm that makes the winds that much more powerful. This is being touted as a once in a lifetime record breaking storm. We all need to pray for everyone on the receiving end of this storm. Jim Patrick
Both the wind and the rain have picked up here in southwest Connecticut. However, it doesn't seem to be as bad as predicted. So far we have only two big trees down. And they were not close to the power lines....so....all is good at the present.
We lost power 20 minutes ago. But have a blackberry and still have 3G coverage, so I'm still checking in. Wife, sons, daughter-in-law, cats and dogs are hunkered down in Fredericksburg Virginia.
Fred - hope you are ok on the island!
Steve;
Do you have a car charger for your blackberry? How far are you from the coast? I've been there, but it was long ago. They had a tour there.
The wind is picking up here in Trenton Nj. Light rain. Watching the tall Pine trees bend.
Richard - yes, I'll go sit in the truck for a while and let it charge. Hopefully Verizon can keep the 3G network up. Fredericksburg is inland from the Chesapeake bay and Potomac river, about 50 miles south of DC. Only problem is I can't figure out how to post photos from my Blackberry.
Stay tough everyone in the path of the storm. I've got a sister named Sandy and if this storm's temperament is any thing like my sisters, you guys are going to have a rough ride. Seriously I hope you all come through it ok. We'll be praying for your families and your Model T's tonight. It's hard to believe there's such a storm happening. Here in central Minnesota the wind is calm, the sky is partly cloudy and we're having the most beautiful sunset. From the looks of it though the western edge can't be too far away. It appears Chicago could catch some snow as a result.
Steve, which part of the picture posting process are you having difficulty with? I just ran through all the steps on my Blackberry and it appears that I can get it to work. Shoot me an email and I'll see if I can help you out. kramer90@rogers.com
Chris
Blowin' like hell now. Gusts. Probably 50+mph. Garage doors are singing. (OK moaning) through the joints. Flickering lights. Power's still on. Don't know for how long. Rain is minimal. News video from Sea Side. Beach is under water. Waves coming up through the board walk planks.
Sandy arrived here in southwest Connecticut about three hours ago. Shortly thereafter we lost power. The neighborhood is dark. Many trees are down. All state roads have been declared off limits by the Governor. A great many local towns have imposed a curfew.
Between the curfews, the dangerous roads and the need for RNs at the hospital where she works, she'll be spending the night there again tonight. It could be worse.....
Several years ago my wife and I grew tired of power outages so I installed a substantial automatic propane powered (we have no natural gas where we live) generator. It's up and running as designed.
Also, a couple of months ago I recently replaced the local cable TV service with FIOS provided by the telephone company. I did so in large part because every time we lost electricity in the past, we also lost the cable service.....while the phone service was typically not affected by what ever caused the electricity and cable to dry up.
SO......with the generator and FIOS, things are much better than might otherwise be expected. We have hot and cold water, TV and the internet.

I grew up in Seaside. 44 Hanncock..half a block from the ocean. Know that we are thinking of you.

Chris - sent you an email.
Posting this picture for Steve.
My sister in law lives right on the back bay just north of Atlantic City. Stubborn her refused to evac and figures all of her few neighbors did.
Still has phone, still has power, but says "The Great Bay" is now at her front doorstep and lapping at the threshold and that the eye should pass in the next 15 minutes and that high tide bay side has theoretically passed a few minutes ago.
Said she was going to pour herself a toddy and go upstairs to the second floor to watch TV for as long as she could, sort it all in AM. Love her dearly, but boy for her entire life has she been a constant 24/7 life skills trip and the original version of 'legally blonde' They say the man upstairs protects fools and idiots......
Chris - thanks for posting the photo. I went to the garage with a lantern to check on the Touring car. All is well so far.
I made it through with no problems besides lost power for about 8 hours. But I'm worried about our brethren to the north who are taking a more direct hit. More flooding is expected due to the tides and storm surge. Good thing Ts have a lot of ground clearance!
Hang in there you guys.
You can never underestimate the power of the ocean.
I spent 25 years USN and she is a powerful woman never to be ignored.
Good luck you folks back east.
All is well....on a relative basis....here in southwest Connecticut.
There are 7.5 million homes and commercial properties without power in the Connecticut, New York and New Jersey tri-state area.
Our damage was limited to losing power and downed trees. The creek and pond over flowed, but did not rise to the level of reaching our house. Some homes down the road, and I mean down as in lower elevation, suffered some flooding.
It's time to begin the clean up effort.
Hoping everyone is o.k. Over 500 linemen left Alabama yesterday to help in the efforts to restore power.
Bob
Tim,
Glad to hear you made it through relatively unscathed. Hope the rest of our forum dwellers are ok too.
While we're on the topic Tim, maybe your K should live somewhere a bit more safe, say....Nebraska?
Just sayin......
Stay well,
Rob
Rob,
Isn't your K in a trailer near Hershey?
I certainly hope it's OK!
Beautiful car.
Bob,
I hope so too. I fly tomorrow morning from Omaha to Harrisburg PA (I hope). Another forum member looked in on the trailer this morning and said everything appeared to be OK.
If I'm on schedule, I should fly in tomorrow morning, and then head south for a T tour in Savannah GA. I'll post pics of the area if/when I arrive tomorrow.
Again, I hope all our members/friends in the storm area are OK and starting the difficult process of restoring your lives,
Rob
We haven't heard from Bob Coiro on Long Island, which caught a lot. Hope he and his are ok.
The minute-by-minute updates we get go a long ways to reduce loss of life and property damage. The hurricane that came ashore on Long Island in 1938 caught everybody by surprise, and hundreds died.
Think if the 50 houses in Queens that burned last night had not been evacuated; not to mention flooding of tunnels and subways.
rdr
I guess I shouldn't just worry about the cars...
I hope the owners are OK, too.
Ralph, I haven't heard from Bob via e-mail either. I haven't heard from my relatives on Long Island as well?
Just heard from an "old car" friend on Long Island. His text says "all is good, firewood is now plentiful". His next text says " major bridges out of New York re opened today. major airports may open in next several days".
Rob
IBM have a large Datacenter in Southbury, CT. One of our internal system have had substantial downtime today. Wonder if they have had power problems...
Michael,
Tim Kelly from CT mentions above that several million around southern CT (NY, NJ) have power outages. Sounds like a lot of services will be disrupted for some time.

You were in the heart of the SANDY Storm. Are you ok? Anything you can report. We trust all is ok? We are thinking of you.

Waiting to hear from Mike Kossor in NJ.
Hey Rob, any idea what the status is going to be on your flight? After looking at your Ford K this last summer I was very impressed and pray everything is going to be ok with it. I saw it at the New Brighton to New London run and took a bunch of pictures. What a great and yet different car. Good luck tomorrow. Hopefully you'll get those cars back out on the plains soon so they'll be safe.
Has anyone heard from Bob yet???
Charlie how are you making out? Hope all is safe...Chip
If you're talking about Bob Corio, no.
Mike,
Boarding a flight now in Omaha. To Detroit, then Harrisburg.
