We are making exact copies of the original speedometer cable grommets used by Ford from 1909-15, and other makes. I want to see if there is enough interest in them to go ahead and make them. I'm guessing they will probably retail for around $10 each, but that is just a guess. Every original early unrestored T I've seen has this style grommet, with the manufacturers logo on it. Ours will have no logo.
Seems like you should get a logo for ten bucks.
I am with Mike on this, How can it be an "exact copy" if the manufacturers logo is not on it. I would buy one for my 14 if it was correct but I think I bought a correct sized grommet from Radio Shack some years back with out any logo for 1/10 of the price.
The problem is, I don't have original grommets for every brand! The one I have is a Jones, and I didn't think a person with a Johns Manville speedometer would want a Jones grommet, even though you can't see the logo when its on the car very well. The one on my '13 roadster says Stewart. It is true, you can get a modern grommet for practically nothing that will work.
Hey, Larry -- When you get through using that Jones one for a no-name pattern, I could use it for my coupelet.
Doesn't seem to be much interest in these. Since all the early cars use them, excluding some '14s, I thought they'd go over. Apparently not.
I think the interest chilled when you mentioned they may retail for $10. If you could do something to reduce production costs and/or scale production, it wouldn't be out of the question to have a bushing selling for much less.
Take a look at this as an example. A battery cable bushing for a buck.

I had bushing on the brain. I meant grommet.
Ken, just going from memory here, but I think that grommet is the generic one. As I recall, the original style was several dollars more. Dave
I agree with Ken. I wish we could make them for a buck, but the cost of material is expensive, and the mold to make them is too. Each one is hand made, and that is why they would be so expensive. We make the battery cable bushing too, and they are expensive too. Check Langs catalog. The generic one that will work is a buck or two, but our exact copy is a lot more money, because each one is hand made.
I forgot to add, I purchased the good one for my TT. It wasn't that much more expensive to have the original style. Dave
