Has anyone ever tried to make their own Mag flat wire out of bare round wire?
Best I can tell the flat measures 0.20 thick x 3/16".
I know many people reuse theirs and I cant find it for sale anywhere.

I did the math a couple years ago, and I don't exactly remember the gauge, but the cross section area of the flat wire I measured was equivalent to the cross section area of regular 12 or 14 gauge round copper wire. With that said, it wouldn't be too hard to build a series of precision rollers that roll the round copper wire to the proper flat profile. There are machines like this that are used by manufacturers to make flat wire. You can buy one right off the shelf if you can afford it.
With good quality re-wound field coils available for around $200, you may not find much of a "payout" in re-winding your own field coil... Unless you just enjoy that aspect of the "hobby".
