Need to replace my dad's jerry rigged exhaust system. I like the idea of stainless steel with tailpipe extension. The old style pipe from manifold just slipped into the muffler. The stainless is bolted to the muffler with a clamp, u-bolt/thingy. Any cons with this set up ??? I thought that the pipe needed to move with the engine a little. What are the thoughts on the Corvair Turbo mufflers ??
l had bought the stainless muffler from Lang's in May. It's too loud and is now sitting a shelf. The tail pipe extension hit the axle on hard bumps and got cut off after a week of use. l went to a local muffler shop and asked if he had a muffler to fit my pipe. He had a bunch of 7" round ones about the right length and size. No one uses them anymore and he just gave me 3 of them to get them out of his warehouse. lt sounds great now. Go to a shop and see what you can come up with.
Ford Tractor Muffler is what I used

On my '27, I took it to a muffler shop and they ran it from the manifold to the rear, including the muffler. He swelled the pipe at the manifold and clamped over the threads. Put a tractor muffler on it and it sounded like a tractor. Didn't like it, so he put a resinator(sp) muffler on it. Very quiet.
In the -50's I used a Jeep muffler. Its fittings were the same size as the T (1 1/4" if I remember correctly). Sounded like a car.
I used the Ford Tractor muffler a few times over the years when in a pinch..They are cheap! They are louder than a stock muffler and you do sound like a tractor..Sounded cool at first but I got tired of it....More suited for a Speedster or high performance T....Its sort of a straight through with upsetting tabs along the inner canal. I had to trim off a few inches of exhaust pipe to fit them in..One of the end seams always seem to start leaking soot like the stock T mufflers
I don't have any experience with the FO-4 in the link above, but I've been using the FO-11 on my cars and those for customers for several years. I can't tell that they're any louder than a stock T muffler, and they're straight-through so they must reduce back pressure. They fit easily into the same place as the stock one without trimming anything. After I get them installed, I go to the local muffler shop and have them make a short tail pipe to clear the spring.
I always try to find original exhaust pipes and mufflers at swap meets. They fit much better than the trash the vendors sell.
