When in winter storage should the top on a '24 Roadster be in the up or down position? I think I read on this forum it should be down but don't remember for sure. Thanks, Don.

Don,
The top should be in the up position when the car is stored.
Some top materials tend to shrink just a bit when down making them a real bear when time to put them back up!

Don,

I agree with Floyd. The gentleman who does our tops says all top materials will shrink if not stretched. I have a bear of a time getting side curtains in place in the fall because they've been rolled up all summer.

A top that is folded during storage also provides a living area for rodents and insects. If it gets damp then it will also mold in the creases.

Another major consideration why to always leave the top up when not being driven (when you may want it down). There are good modern top materials that do not shrink. But they, along with all other top materials, are subject to both dust and (if not kept in near darkness) sunlight marking. I have seen tops with dust marking that just never went away. The dust settles into the exposed fabric weave and turns the fabric gray. Sunlight, if exposed in significant amounts, will permanently fade almost any top material, again, only in the exposed areas.
So. To sum up. Shrinkage, rodents, bugs, dust, and sunlight, all say store with top up. So, why do I usually store my cars with folding top down? Because the ceiling is too low in my best parking places. Darn! (At least my coupe clears by an inch and a half.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Also, leaving the top down for extended periods of time can wrinkle and crease the material, which won't look as nice when you go to put the top back up. I've heard it's best to leave it up at all times when you're not driving it, in order to keep the material taut and flat as best you can.
