Being that I like the unique (or odd ball) Model T equipt. units, I've often wondered how many of them are out there. How many can we locate and count. I know of 4 4X4's and about 58 Snow units in the Snowmobile club plus more that are not connected in any orig. Any help in counting them?
There history and there connection with the T era dates from about 1913 to the start of WWII. I do have a collection of information on the Automobile Snow Attachments and am always looking for more.
Thanks to Bruce,Hap and the others in Canada, England and down under for there continuing research and sharing it with us.
IT'S ALL MOST SNOW TIME.

Bob

If I'm not mistaken you can still buy these kits from the grandson? of the inventor.

4x4 would have been handy on my trip. I needed help to escape the deep soft sands of southern Mozambique...hard thin tyres are not great in such conditions.

The question is can the kit handle rough offroad conditions.

I was told by Jesse Livingood jr. There have been roughly 150 units made in total. He also said he has made more units than is father.

Tom Carnegie owns one.
Les schubert had one too.

Bob, In this thread you shared the inventors grandson's contact info: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/257047/284104.html?1335255761
He should have the best info on how many sets, old and new production, that are around :-)

Yes they are still available new. I think that a Sandmobile might have helped in the Sands of Africa. There was at least one such unit shipped there in the 20's. No reports of how it worked.

Sorry to hear that your going to sell your historical "T"there. Have you looked into contacting the Kremlin to see if they might be able to commandeer one of their cargo planes to
be used as a diplaomatic courier to take you and the car to Melbourn as a show of friendship. Just a thought.

Thanks in advance.

The Sandmobile looks a lot like a Snowmobile. Perhaps marketing was the only difference. The 2nd set of rear wheels are driven by the back wheels, and I doubt the front wheels have drive.

How do you know one was sent to Africa? Which country?

It was shipped to Egypt for use in the Sahara desert. The Sandmobile was a modified Snowmobile, built to operate on sand and soft marshy ground.
The Picture below was from an article in the Yankee Magazine in the mid 70's. the information and pictures were provided by Miss Jean Schillare Mr. Whites long time Sect. She had kept files, photographs and records at her home(or Copies) because the number of fires at the plant many time, over there 20 years in operation.
She told me (through her Dr. and wife that were personal friends) in 1982-3 before her death that she had sold them to the Yankee Magazine, They in turn have denied having anything ,but if they do it's there's, end of conversation. I've tried more than a couple of times and end up with the answer, Even after they published there article in the 70's.

Bob,

You should have sent me that drawing of the sandmobile while I was in the Sudan so I could show people and ask "Have you seen one of these?".

It could well still be out there somewhere in the desert half covered in sand.

Dry weather would mean it's still in good condition, see:
