Anyone running an A manifold and a Stromberg OE-1 carb. I had Stan Howe rebuild one for me and plan to install it soon. I'm interested in how someone rigged up throttle and choke linkage for it. I have through about using a throttle cable from Lokar and an original Williams Jr. accelerator pedal. Anyone got pictures to share?

Accelerator pedal? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. :-)

Terry-
I have a OE-1 that was on my wife's speedster for a while. It ran poorly. I wanted to find out the settings where it would be dialed-in best. I believe the OE-1 was used on Studebakers & Franklins. I was talking with a fellow who told me they were used on big 6 cylinder engines and said the T engine would not have enough air intake for it to work properly.

I have a Zenith O-4 that I am happy with

I thought the MB-1 was a little small for the Fronty R head.

Only challenge I had was rigging a choke cable. Could have used a bowden cable.

I believe the M is same as O, but lacking accel pump or enrichment valve. The B is for sidedraft.

Keith, I know what you had told me about the OE-1, before, however, Stan Howe rebuilt this one for me and he tests them on a test engine before sending them out, so I figured I would try it. Ralph, thanks for the photo, but since it is of an MB and mounts on the driver's side of the motor on a Fronty, it doesn't give me many ideas of how to hook up throttle linkage, so I guess I'll just wing it unless someone has one on a basically stock T and can post a picture.

Terry-
I thought that we had this conversation before... I couldn't remember for sure. You know they say that memory is the second thing to go.

Mine was not rebuilt. If Unca Stan rebuilt yours and ran it on his test bench it, should be good.

I hooked mine up with cables instead of linkages.

I look forward to a future report.

Keith, thanks for replying but your carb was on a speedster on the driver's side of the engine, just like Ralph's. I think if I can get a throttle arm ball that bolts to the carb throttle arm and the proper length accelerator cable from Lokar, I can use my Williams Jr accelerator pedal and make things work. Rigging a choke should be no problem, even if I have to use a universal lawn mower choke or throttle cable. I am using this setup on a 26 fordor with a Simmons head and a Stipe 280 cam with an advanced timing gear.

Nathan -- That's to get hot air from near the exhaust manifold to the intake, similar to the hot air pipe which came on Model T's.

oh okay! i knew some speedsters that raced on dirt tracks used a pipe that went through the firewall into the cowl to get better quality air. thanks!

I wish I had a photo of it to show you. The gray race car I used to have had a Carter updraft carburetor on the right side of the engine. The throttle on it ran the wrong direction for the rod from the steering column. I bolted a simple stand post onto the frame, put a bell-crank onto it. It worked very well.
Drive carefully, and wear a funny hat! W2
