There's a firm in Ireland offering these, quite a bit cheaper than the British made Carcoon which I have. Just wondered if anyone knew if they are as good.

I have 2 of them.
Have had one for about 5 years - to store my wife's Mustang in it, before it snows the first time. Usually in it from mid-November til April 1.
Also have one I had modified last year for my 17 Model TT Wrecker. I had a standard model modified by adding 24" on the bottom (black strip in photo) to get the height needed for the Truck/Wrecker.
Highly recommend these for storage, as they continually exchange the air inside (through slight leakage at the zipper) keeping the machine free of condensation. Vehicle comes out as clean as it was when you stored it.
Let me know if you have any questions about them.

Thanks for that info. I got a similar thumbs-up from someone on Ahooga.com, so I think I'll get one for the T to go in the bottom shed, which is not as cozy as the main garage. Then I can get some work done on my VW camper and Model A (I know, I know, wasting my time on modern junk) in the garage while the T is safely stored.

Looks like they only sell them for indoor use. Did they quit making them for outdoors?

Paul, that wrecker is wonderful! Do you have any history of it? Some more pictures would be nice too! Dave

Dave -
The truck was originally had grain box and was restored by my father-in-law in the early 80's, as he was the Holmes dealer in the territory. The Holmes 285 Wrecker is the first Wrecker Model produced by the Ernest Holmes Company of Chattanooga Tn., and was produced from 1917 through 1932. Don't know the exact year of manufacture of this unit though. We had 2 of these wrecker units and mounted the second one on a '22 Ford chassis for a towing company in Springfield, about 10 years ago. Holmes only knows of 3 of the 285 models still in operation - one on a Cadillac chassis in their museum in Chattanooga, this one, and the one we sold to Springfield. There may be another in the north east, but have not been able confirm it being a 285 or 485.
The Wrecker Assembly is fully operational and has twin booms, which are independently adjustable, each with a hand operated 2-speed hoist winch (pic).
In operation, the stabilizer feet are lowered to the ground to support the weight of the vehicle, while performing a recovery. The opposing boom and winch is used to stabilize the Wrecker during the recovery process, tying to a tree, another vehicle or a ground anchor.
He was going to sell it when he retired, so we bought it to keep it in the family. Have been doing a 'rolling restoration' on it as time permits. It's a pretty unique vehicle. About to put it back in the bubble for the winter.
Enjoy.

Paul
