Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: Mostly OT: Very excited for the summer:
Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Matthew Atchinson on Monday, November 05, 2012 - 10:16 pm:

Well this will be my first "OT" post. I hope not to make many of these, but I really couldn't resist this time. For those of you here on the forum that don't know me, my name is Matthew. I have a 1925 Model T Ford I am building from parts, with a 1926 engine. I am a junior in college, and am 20 years old.

Here is the point I can't resist gloating to you guys about:
I have been dating this wonderful girl, named amanda for close to two years now. I know these are "modern times" but I am an old fashioned kind of man, and I stick to my morals and religion. So this Thanksgiving seaon I have arranged breakfast or dinner with amanda's father. I have told him that I intend to marry his daughter, and wish for his permission to do so. We will get married in the summer after I have graduated.
I know this is really off topic, but I really am just very excited. On a more related note, she loves Model T's also, and we intend to drive off in my T after the wedding, or my Grandfathers Roadster if mine is not done yet. Needless to say I am a very proud and honored man :-) Again, sorry for the OT, but I couldn't help it

Amanda

Matthew,

Don't at all be concerned about being OT...there are lots of times this forum is front porch family!

Congratulations! Sincerely...

And if the work on the T slows down, well, heck if you need a 'what T?' for a while, quite understandable! At least your car is a 'black T' and you won't have to delegate (or try to delegate) who polishes the Brass :-)

Congratulations Matthew, sounds like you are a grounded mature young man. I was your age when I married...36 years ago, still at it. I made the mistake of not asking my father in law's permission to wed his daughter. Realizing my error, I asked him on bended knee for his approval...how could he deny me. All the best to you and your future bride!
Bob

Matthew, Many Congratulations. I too drove my T in my wedding a year ago. I think it meant more to my wife than me. It is something you will never forget!!! The day goes by very quick, but there is something about the slow pace of the T with your new bride that will allow the two of you to enjoy each other at a slower pace for a bit. Nothing like it. Don't forget the pictures when you do get married, I am sure we all would love to see them!!!!!

Congratulations Matthew !

Wonderful news - beautiful bride to be - and perhaps the best part is what you wrote :

" I am an old fashioned kind of man, and I stick to my morals and religion"

May our Creator grant you and Amanda many happy years together, and the patience and grace to work through whatever "bumps in the road of life" that you encounter.
Best Wishes,
Dave

Matthew,

What wonderful news! Congratulations! May God bless you both with many happy years, wonderful children and many miles together in your Model T!

I also commend you on your morals and your religion. You can see how well life rewards you when you "follow the rules". Good for you!

Matthew: Have you given her the "test". Have you taken her to Hershey or better yet to Chickasha? If she is still talking to you after Chickasha, she is a good catch. Took my wife to Hershey 3 months after we meet,(1979) now she is mad when she can not go. Good luck, Dan.

Thanks for all the responses guys: I sent her this post last night through email and she told me she couldn't stop blushing :-)

I know I am a very lucky man. This summer I was taking the rear end off of my T project and she sat down there with me all day as I worked, asking me what did what, helping me jack the end up and pull the end out. You should have seen her face when I showed her my Grandfathers 23 Roadster he restored decades ago. First words out of her mouth were :those aren't regular T headlights, are they? They look different (my grandfather has the French "eyelid" glass lenses that dip over half the light to give it color at night). I smiled, she's learning fast!

Matthew,

THis sounds great on many counts - having common beliefs and values are critical for any relationship and a key value is honoring the person you love. It is really nice that she has an interest in the Model T as well. Good test with her sticking with you while you worked on the car and being willing to help. 46 1/2 years ago my girlfriend helped me pull the motor out of my 57 Ford in an retired dairy barn in Canada. She cleaned parts, help get tools, held the rope for the block and tackle while I aligned the trans and clutch and did anything else she could to help. I already knew she was the girl for me but it was a great bonding experience just the same. Her Mom was not pleased when her little darling came home with dirty clothes, grease under her fingernails and a nasty cold but she got over it. We were just 19 and 20 when we got married 46 years ago. Lots of folks thought it would never last but they just didn't understand us as well as they thought they did.

Best wishes for you and Amanda in the present and for your future together.

Walt

Some people do complain about things "off topic". But most on here, and definitely me, like a fair amount of things "off topic". Especially, anything as important as this! Thank you for sharing this with us! I consider most of the regulars on here to be my friends.
Congratulations! Best wishes. You are off to a great start. (And the right way.)
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Congratulations! You have picked a beautiful and a wonderful woman to be your wife. Hopefully, her father will give his blessings. It important to share the same values and interests.

55 years ago I found a beautiful girl who shared my beliefs and values. The final selling point was when she held a flashlight while I worked under the car. We have been married 54 years.

One of my sons likes Corvairs and on his first date with the woman who became his wife, they went to a wrecking yard to see if he could find any parts for the car. She went along with him. They have now been married about 16 years.

I wish you well with both projects, the chosing and marrying Amanda and the work getting your T to run.
Norm
