For those who are interested, there are three sets of original vintage "Tucker Spoke tighteners", in the original packages, for sale on ebay. In all my years on ebay (12 years), I have never seen these come up for sale, so I assume they are pretty rare. Go to ebay and type "Tucker spoke tighteners" in the search box and the three auctions should appear. I have no affiliation with these or the seller. Jim Patrick
"Tucker Spoke Tighteners", "Tucker Spoke Tighteners"...Say that 10 times real fast .
Here's A past post on these under ACCESSORY OF THE DAY.

Interesting Jay. You may want to get a pack of these with the original packaging to add to your vast accessory collection and to use in you future Ford Model T accessories book. Jim Patrick
Anyone know the ebay number on the spoke jack?
Is this what you are talking about Richard?

Sorry about the double posting. PC is giving me grief.
No, I was talking about the 'Tucker Spoke Tightner that Jim Patrick was talking about. We always called them Spoke Jacks.
Click www.ebay.com and type "tucker spoke" in the search box and all three auctions should appear along with a couple of other tucker spoke related items. That is alot easier that trying to list the long ebay auction item site address without making a mistake. Jim Patrick
You only need to copy the first part including the long number - the questionmark and the rest doesn't need to be copied. Mark it with the cursor, right click and copy, paste in here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tucker-Spoke-Tighteners-for-Wood-Spoke-Wheels-Model-T-Fo rd-Dodge-Bros-more-/360506279043
There are several packages - easy to make yourself, though
These are only the shims. You need the rest of the kit to use them and it consists of the actual spoke jack. See the pic.
The Tucker Spoke Tighteners are the shims. Here is a photo of my complete spoke tightening kit:
The tool on the right is the spoke jack. The photo that John linked to is a boot jack... which is used to remove tight boots from your feet... not a lot of help in repairing loose wheels!
TH
Terry;
I have all of those tools. LOL
My spoke jack is exactly like the one pictured (to the right). I used it once and it worked good.
And here is a update of my list of the patents issued to the Tucker Brothers
for the spoke shims and tools, all now have direct links thru Google Patents.

Terry, how about a close up pic of the spoke jack w/dimensions?
Thanks, Ken
Ken, you can get approximate dimensions from these photos. If you need specific measurements let me know. These spoke jacks were made in varying sizes so you will need to go to your next swap meet with measurements in mind. The important measurement is the working length... you get that by measuring it on your wheel (see the bottom right photo). Terry |
