The Antique Car Drag races,A's, T's and early flathead V8's, scheduled for Nov 10 at SIR have been moved to Nov 11, due to the forcast of rain.
Sorry, this is SIR policy, no racing in the rain.

Donald

Is this an reenactment from the old days at the old Goodyear air strip back in the mid 50's
or the night drags on the Sebino Canyon (sp.)road
from the same time period. I remember them well, but can't make them this time.

Bob

Bob,no, I doubt many are still around that remember those good ole days. Sabino Canyon Rd. is far too crowded with traffic to do that today.
The airstrip, I believe is in mid town, it has since been mostly devoured with contruction. I know perhaps 8 years ago, there was still a hanger there, but haven't been buy there since.
This is actually replacing the Picacho Peak Hill Climb that was discontinued.

The SIR Drag Strip is along Houghton Rd., just south of I-10.

Don

I haven"t been back in a while, I received my discharge from the Air Force at D-M in May of 1955.

The Sabino Canyon road drags were set up at the local drive-in on Speed Way and were all at night. The cattle guards were 1/4 mile apart, and down the road about 2 mile was a small hill that we could see and if the cops were coming someone there would throw a match in a barrow of gas for a warning, everyone would scatter in to the desert and hide. We even had a dragster out there one night. Great fun when your young.
Thanks for bringing back memories

Bob
