My brother in law recently passed away, and his wish is to have his ashes interred in a Mobil 1 Racing Oil can, 1gal in size.
I need help locating one of these for the sister in law. Can anyone help me?
J. B. Weld is you're friend in this case
I am so sorry William I meant to put the above message on a different thread. Sorry for you're loss
It didn't make any sense in that thread either.
This is a very strange thread indeed .....
Jim
Do they sell a i gal. can size? I know some oil co., like Motorcraft, sell oil in 5 qt. cans.
A quick search using Google shows Mobil 1 Racing Oil available in 6 quart cases or 55 gal drums.
I did not find any 1 gal sizes
Well, the reason for asking, he was a former race car driver on the same team with Paul Newman back in the day. They were friends and he was really bummed when he had been diagnosed with high blood pressure and wasn't able to race anymore. He would meet Mr. Newman at different events and shoot the bull with him for several hours in his trailer.
I think his widow is looking for a vintage can, from back in the day. I just need the empty can. I wouldn't need it until March. He will be interred in Ossining, NY in April with his parents and sister.
William
I hope that someone here might be able to help, but you might also contact the people on the Picker TV show. There out there around places that will hold what your looking for and it would make a good subject mater for them to look for.
Just a thought.
Bob
His sister and granddaughter have already been in contact with them. I do not know the outcome.
I mean, they sent an email. An actual conversation has not taken place at this time.
Mobil 1 one quart cans were available back in 1974, but Ive never seen a one gallon can.
http://antiquearchaeology.com/ is the Picker's web site. There is probably a contact link that you could ask about the vintage can.
Mobil one quart, five quart and five gallon cans are readily available on eBay. Mobil 1 cans are not.
Here is an example of a clean Mobil five quart can:

Do two separate searches on ebay for the following:
mobil can
mobiloil can

Why a one GALLON can?
Human cremains will easily fit in a quart vessel.
She just said a gallon. I don't know anything else.
I collect vintage & antique oil cans, Ebay is loaded with them. You should have no trouble finding something nice on eBay. One gallon vintage cans are not that hard to find.
Jimmy
Cremains of an average size adult weigh between three and nine pounds and take up a volume of approximately 200 cubic inches. That is 0.86 gallon, so in round numbers a gallon size would be required.

Good luck,

Thanks, guys. I know she will be able to find something, now.
He was a special guy...racing with Newman, a Korean War vet, and above all: a Marine. He flew Corsairs in the war.
He had a few jobs in his career, most notable was as an executive at GM (bad word). He told the story once of getting into a verbal shouting match with GM's head honcho about the car he was driving. The honcho stood up in his limo, through the sunroof and yelled at him for driving a foreign made truck onto the property past a sign that said "Only American Made Cars Beyond This Point". My brother-in-law yelled back that if the bigshot could find him an American car that got as good gas mileage as the one he was driving, he'd buy it.
The next day the GM bigshot presented him with a car and he had to buy it....
I'm sorry to hear of his passing. He stood up for what he thought was right. The fact he was a veteran should have caused GM's head honcho to mind his manners and show some respect for him.
