Guys, First time posting. I purchased a 22 engine that was configured as a power unit. Has not run in 40 years. I purchased mainly for parts. The carburetor is not familiar to me. I did some quick searches and have not come across any pictures that match. There are no markings on it. What is it?
It is an Air Friction carburetor. One of the most popular aftermarket Model T carbs.
Here's an "accessory of the day thread" on the very same carb from 2009 (with pictures).

Hi Ted,
Can you post any pictures of your engine as a power unit? I am working on one now and always like to see what others have done over the years.
Thanks.
Joe
Hi Ted - Welcome to the forum! Looks like you just found out what a great thing this forum is! And by the way, I sure like that pick up truck on your profile,......bumpers no less! Neat little truck,........harold
Guys,
Thanks so much for the info and warm welcome. I have acquired the 24 truck from my employer of 30 years. He passed and I was able to buy it from the family. I have spent the last year getting it running and putting some the original equipment back. Converted back to 6 volt. Runs fairly good but not as good as some of the cars on Youtube.
I have never seen a closed truck cab on a small chassis. I assume this is not an original configuration. None the less, it is unique and my Dad and I are having fun getting it running. This is where the power unit engine comes in. My engine has a welded crack on the head. I wanted a head that had no scar. I will be using the power unit engine for other spare parts.
Here are two pictures of the power unit. They really don't tell the story. I will take better pictures in a week or so (engine is at my Dad's which is 1 hour away).
The power unit consists of the '22 engine and and transmission. It was mounted on a cut T frame which was mounted on a wooden skid. It has a pulley mounted on the output of the trans. No starter and no generator. Not sure how they used it since the Clutch pedal was still there. The reverse and brake pedals were not there. How did they keep the trans engaged? Strap down the pedal? Always use high gear?
Thanks again for the info. The forum is really helping me get through first year of T ownership.
BTW: As you see, two Champion X plugs. One has Champion Ford on it. Can I assume it is from the 20's?
