How is the crankshaft pulley pin held in position? Taper fit, cotter key...?
Mine is loose, I think the only thing keeping it from falling out is the fan belt!
Thanks

It had a cotter pin in it originally. Pin is straight.
The pulley has a large and a smaller hole. the pin is inserted thru the larger hole. The pin should then have a cotter pin thru it inside the large hole. pin should not be able to fall out the smaller hole.
That pin should be a snug fit. If it is loose, it will cause a knock at idle. To tighten it, lay it across an open vise and put a chisel in the center and give it a blow with a hammer to put a small kink in the center. Then it should fit snuggly into the front of the crankshaft. The cotter pin goes on the end of the pin inside the pulley to keep it from going out the larger hole. The pin will keep the pulley from slipping around the crankshaft, and also serves to catch the ratchet end of the crank for hand cranking.
