I want to use Model A 21" wire wheels on my 21 T
There saying to Use Model A Hubs on the front and rear. Some mods are needed.
One thing I have plenty of is "A" hubs and wheels.
Thanks
Fred,
Several of the Model T suppliers sell adapters for that purpose.
Dont want to pay the $$$ for those Adapters.
Fred way back when, people would weld the T hubs to the 21" Model A wheels. Some would take their time and make them look pretty good.
My Grandfather either had it done or did it himself after he bought his 24 T Coupe in 1942.They didnt look all the best but he owned the car for over 35 years before he stopped driving it and I inherited it.
Folks werent interested in restoring T's in that era as they really used them for everyday use. So if it worked that was fine.
It can be done but people usually nowdays buy adapters. It can be done so well that they look really nice and authentic by welding the T hubs to the Model A wheels.
Do you have 09-25 Differential or 26-7? Regardless, front hub can be made using Model A hubs. The brake drum has to be machined off. The stock T spindle has to be shortened one inch and a new cotter pin hole drilled. You then use the Model A bearing set.
For the rear, Use a Model T wood wheel hub and brake drum year of choice. A one inch spacer is needed to shim the wheels out. Super space the drum hub and spacer to 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern and assemble the three and press in studs. When using the early drums; after the studs are installed the heads will need to be turned down because they will hit the emergency brake shoes.
