A friend without e-mail needs some 1926 TT Truck Lug Nuts. The nuts have a K in the outside top left corner along with RIM 118 120 125 and PATS760932315 on the back side. Can anyone translate these numbers or provide a source for these lugs.

James, those are for the Kelsey 23inch TT wheels. They shouldn't be too hard to find, I've seen them on ebay in the past. Dave

A photo would be good.

Different manufacturers (eg, Hubco, Jaxon, Stone) made their own version of the same lug but all with their own codes on them.

If all else fails (I'm in New Zealand) I have a large number of NOS lugs, some of which have a K on them and others which have been identified as being the same as Firestone K.

Gavin, your name sounds familiar, didn't I meet you at the 2008 birthday party, wearing a green T shirt?

New Zealand is not that far to send an object that light by air mail. One lug only weighs 3 ounces.

One lug is different and probably and after market with only has a WA on the back. The A is in the W.

Here are the photos.

Art Bell, where are you when I need your help.

John C. Kelsey or H. J. Herbert may have received the patent or their company may have bought the patent from someone else.

John Kelsey formed the K. H. Wheel Company (with partner H. J. Herbert) in 1909 with the hopes of developing a spring wheel. Advised by Henry Ford to focus instead on the production of traditional wheels made of hickory wood, Kelsey took his advice and by 1919 his company was producing wooden wheels at a rate of two million per year and in 1915 the Kelsey Wheel Company was re-incorporated for $13 million. Ford gave Kelsey his flying start, buying more than three quarters of the company's wheel production in 1909. Afraid of becoming too dependent on Ford, Kelsey diversified, giving Ford less than one-third of his business in 1910 and, following a disagreement with Ford, less than ten percent in 1912. While still selling to Ford, by 1915 the company's business had grown to $3.5 million in total revenues and had 15-20 percent of the wheel market, supplying not only Ford but also Hudson, Paige, Chalmers, and Studebaker.

Hi James

Still here – just keeping my head down and my powder dry

I tried to make a connection to J. Kelsey and a patent when I read your first post on Thursday,
but I couldn’t make the “PATS760932315” numbers fit as either patent numbers or patent dates,
and/or connect with Kelsey or the Kelsey Wheel Company.

A few of the patents that I did find (with no apparent connection to your numbers)
but perhaps pertinent to the discussion are as follows (in order of application date) . . .

Detroit, Michigan
Assignor to Kelsey Wheel Co.
Detroit, Michigan

Patent number: 1260397

John Kelsey

Combined Spacing and Clamping Device
Patent number: 1206857

Hope these are of some interest or help.

Thanks Art. The first 3 are all good ones and relate. I found the same information on the company at another site, but no more info anywhere.

There are more kinds of lug nuts and wheel clamps than anyone could image. Here are a few.
This is something else someone could start collecting. I need the one that is circled on the top left.
