i have received a large bag of the original stuffing for the seats of my 1911 touring which had new upholstery put in, but did not reuse the stuffing. i assume its either horse hair or mohair. any reason to save?
I assume that would depend on the condition.
Is it dirty or damaged looking?
There is always some one looking for anything. Put it on ebay and see what happens.

it all looks very good...clean, would have been nice if they reused it, but they didn't. i'm not much of an e-bay guy
Forum Classifieds then.
Thanksgiving is coming so I'm sure someone will want the stuffing!
Stuart,
Hmm, my big question is "What did they use to stuff your new upholstery?" Modern materials & the original stuff are often quite different in feel and looks, even under the new material. You might want to save it for a re-upholstery job in the future, if it's nice and clean.

i would assume they used modern materials when they did the reupholstering. they did do a beautiful job though. i didn't have it done, the previous owner had it done. if i had it done, i would have had them try to reuse the original material as it definitely has a different feel.
If it is in good shape and not disintegrating, horsehair can be cleaned in a washtub of soap and water.
I would use a mild soap such as Ivory dish washing detergent or a mild shampoo like baby shampoo.
After the soap and water treatment, rinse it in plain water and then spread it out to dry.

Who did your upholstery work?
Don't pitch that horsehair. It can be reused, and is difficult to find! Someone will want it.
I am using old and new horsehair in my upholstery, with a base of "rubberized" horsehair.
Installation. The blue stuff is the rubberized horsehair.
old original as pattern and new backrest
diamond up close. Painted button top.

Who did the shearing of the horse and how did they get that horse to stand that still for shearing? Must have been a gentle horse!!!

The horse hair comes from the same horse that they make dog food and glue out of. So the horse doesn't stand still it's laying still.
