I'm just back from the "Central Hawkes Bay Branch of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand" (what a mouthfull) annual veteran rally. 20 entries this year which is the biggest branch event that I have attended (especially as we are the newest branch in NZ and one of the smallest).
Unfortunately my speedster developed a noise which I think is coming from the timing gear department and had to come home on the trouble trailer. It was still running but it was near the end of the 65 mile outing so trailered it home for further investigation at leasure.,
hope you enjoy.
03 Holley
Holsman's
Unfortunately, these photos were taken at the start and the first stop; unfortunately the weather turned liquid soon after and I didn't get the camera out again.
Hmmmm, some of the labels didn't transfer.
From the top,
1) the 03 Holley was made by the same company that made our carburetors.
2) how often do you see 2 Holsmans in 1 spot
3)Austin, 17 T, Olds, Holley, Buick
4) Calthorpe
5) GWK
6)17, 18(mine) & 13 T's.
7) 15 & 12 T's
Do you have any info' on how the transmission in the holsmans worked? i used to have it in classic car magazine but someone threw them out.
Thanks for the pix. What year is the Calthorpe?
My neighbors father was a circuit riding preacher in NZ in the 1920s, and his Calthorpe collided with a train, killing him when she was a little girl.
Thank you very much for sharing these photos! I, for one, enjoyed them a lot.
I hope the "noise" from your timing gear area is an easy fix.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Kep, big rubber band, little pulley to big pulley provides forward motion; smaller pulley next to the small pulley moves into direct contact with the tyre to provide reverse.
Ricks, I didn't note the year of the Calthorpe and we didn't get a list of entrants and cars but from what I can work out, probably about 1910.
The Calthorpe is 1911. The red 1913 Roadster is mine
My 18 speedster was put together by Rod as well.
I've had it for 12 years, I wonder if the warrantee is still good.
Rod's garage, Friday night, my T in background, his roadster and Model A sedan behind that.

Wasn't there 2 forward speeds?
The Holley and a CDO? Nice!
