Has anyone used the halogen 6 volt headlight bulbs sold by Eric Hirsch? It sounds a good idea to use them, but what experiences are out there?
I put halogen bulbs in a few 6 volt cars about 3 years ago. I found the wiring was not good enough for two tail lights. When the brake lights came on everything in the rear would go dim because the wire going through the amp meter was too small.
I had to go directly from the starter switch to the stop light switch and then back with a number 12 wire to the stop lights. That was okay but it would not show on the amp meter when the brake lights came on.
The better option is LED lights.
Had trouble with grounds while using LED tail/brake lights. The brake light worked but the running light with headlights wouldn't. The halogen are bright and work great. I have not used the headlight halogen version yet.
I bought 6V halogens at the hardware store, drilled small holes in the original socket contacs for the pigtails and epoxied the bulbs in place. Be sure to maintain the same height of the filament above the base as the original. Solder the pigtails ever so slightly.
They really work good,......I can now, at least identify what I'm going hit (sic).
