This is the first time this car has ever been on display. I've been there several times, and never even knew the car existed....
Both names are Dutch or from the Netherlands. "Van" means "from" or "of". The rest of the name is the town or area. "der" may mean "the". So one name is "The Bilt" and the other "The Berg". Berg is often used to mean a town or city. So one would end up with Vanderbilt meaning that the person is"of the Bilt".

We visited Biltmore this summer and I saw the car, what a monster. I guess it was appropriate considering the enormity of Biltmore.
