Do the pinch bolts on the connecting rods face the cam or away from the cam ?
Can't find it in the Ford manual.
They go toward the cam.

We always put them to the least thrust side, away from the cam, on the same side as the piston slot.
I don't think it really matters but any detailed pictures in Ford service books, always show them on the cam side.
It's explained in the "Service Bulletin Essentials" book, page 42.
Quote: "As each connecting rod is put in position in assembling an engine, it is marked with 1, 2, 3 or 4 file marks, on both the rod and the caps according to the cylinder in which it operates. Fig. 61 shows the marks on a rod for No. 3 cylinder. These marks are always on the wrist-pin clamp-screw side of the rod and are assembled on the camshaft side of the crankshaft."
