Great! Thanks.

This was on the wall in the conference room at SwiftAir in Madrid in 2003.

Does anybody recognize the plane?

How cool is that!!!

The pic of the starter and plane has appeared before with no identification. I think it looks a bit like a Nieuport-Delage from the 30's.

I've posted this pic a few times, always with info. I hadn't even heard of Hucks at the time, and had never seen anything like it.

The aircraft in the photo is a Breguet XIX (Copy of a Hispano Suiza C ??)

Here is a link to a Google translated page with more info and a photo gallery.

Thanks for the link, Art. "Jesus of the Great Power"... What's that in Spanish?

I’m not sure if I previously posted the patents for the Hucks starter,
if so, (and for those with an interest) here they are again.

These were also referred to as a ‘Field Engine Starter’,
and there were a few different versions patented.
The following were both assigned to
‘The Aircraft Manufacturing Company’

Here is the original “Hucks” USPTO patent . . .

Bentfield Charles Hucks
London, England
Assignor to The Aircraft Mfg. Co. Ltd.
Westminster, London, England
Means for Starting the Engines of Aeroplanes
Patent number: 1313693
Filing date: Sep 26, 1918
Issue date: Aug 19, 1919

And the ‘improved’ USPTO patent . . .

George Shakespeare Wilkinson
London, England
Assignor to The Aircraft Mfg. Co. Ltd.
Westminster, London, England
Means for Starting the Engines of Aeroplanes
Patent number: 1331791
Filing date: Sep 9, 1919
Issue date: Feb 24, 1920

Ps.Re: "What's that in Spanish?"
Once again, my mouse, Google and Google translate have the answer . . .
“Jesus del Gran Poder”

The statue of Jesus of the Great Power (Jesus del Gran Poder)
was created by Juan de Mesa in 1620, and is now housed in the
Basilica of Jesus of the Great Power in Seville, Spain. - <@^@>
