From the new Model T Times, which arrived yesterday:
"Mr. Wimmer experimented with a distributor but found that the original coils, rebuilt by coil expert Ron Patterson, produced superior performance and economy."
Perhaps Mr. Wimmer didn't know anything about setting up distributors either.
I too have experimented with using distributors, but have always converted back to original coils as performance (not sure about economy) has always been superior (with the coils) Whats the mystery?? Dewey
My cars always seem to run better after I wash them too Arthur........
Your probably right Ken. You wouldn't see a radical change from one correctly operating system to the other. Always had coils but if I got a car with a dist I might not change it. They've been around long enough to be acceptable in my book. If he found a superior difference he may have had something not quite right with the dist system. Not commenting on the coils or who did them just that I don't think a T driver would notice a "miracle" if something wasn't wrong. Or else he had bum coils, changed to a dist which he didn't understand then went back to properly set up coils and perhaps a new timer. That would explain a superior difference.
You have to wonder how much this Wimmer knows ?
Hey it's simply a statement, by the author of an article, about a guy who tried (experimented with) a distributor and found he liked the coils Ron rebuilt better. And maybe Mr Wimmer knows a great deal about setting up a distributor. And perhaps Ron did another exceptional job and the coils worked just like Ron had expected and Steve, I think the fact you posted the quote was a nice thing to do and I liked the fact they said something about Ron's work and Mr Wimmer's attempt at trying a distributor. It seems like pretty great recognition all the way around. So let the speculation and controversy begin.
The internal wires to the HV insulators are rated at probably 600 volts, hardly up to the 10KV+ needed to fire a sparkplug. The High Voltage doesn't matter if you keep them separated, of course.

Steve, you "rabble rouser" .
In the next segment I suppose you'll mention a study of waterpumps? After that, let's go directly to preferred oil.
I'm going back to the sex, politics and religion threads to get away from all this controversy.
Rob
The big controversy for me is why he has his copy of the Times already, and I don't.
Harrumph.
Rob, I don't blame you for wanting to escape but you should know photo's have not been posted on that thread yet.
Hey Danial, pay your club dues. Harrumph. Are you on the air tonight? Are you going to play some SRV?
Not tonight..but I do need to get some air filler going now that you mention it.
As soon as I can extricate my rear from this Laz-Y-Boy recliner...
may be awhile...
And I still don't have my Ford Times. Ah well...I'm sure it will be waiting for me tomorrow....
I hate these lazy boys. They turn me into a lazy man.
